I have no problem with reptile anatomy. I just think it would be weird for him to have his dicks(s) out unprotected in the blazing desert sun.

I see what you mean.
And to be fair, if his face and eyes can handle the environment, maybe his dicks also have a sufficiently thick and resistant surface for protection (and for a little extra girth)
