Nineteen Ninety-Three
Late summer
So I'm trying to work on my painting skills, which is something i do from time to time.  I took a very different approach with this pic than I usually do - building up shapes and volumes rather than filling in outlines.  I barely did any sketching at all, just the hands.  And while I used a lot of reference for the computer, it was drawn from scratch and not traced.

I hope you can smell this room.  The wolf is named Alan.

I updated the pic as I wasn't happy with the 'funkopop' look of cargo in the original.  this is better, i think

Looks good. It's this kind of computers I had in school at the end of the 80's when windows was already out because the school wouldn't invest with the new stuff.

, while there were early versions of Windows during the late 80s, the first truly usable version was 3.0 which was released during 1990. And the more stable 3.1/3.11 a few years later.

I remember our library used to have a row of Apple][ computers. They had those educational games developed by MECC installed and ready to go.

That thing has a NES port, right? That, or a very similar game.

the game is Loderunner and its a popular Apple II platformer.  I believe it was cloned to many systems

Just to make sure: is there a relationship between Lode Runner and Bomberman?

Fav'd just for loderunner!

I spent many years trying to find that game that I played in the early 90's. I couldn't remember the name and only remembered collecting "something" while running around. I finally found the name of it in 2013, I was at work, bored and procrastinating what I was supposed to be doing and just surfing the web when the memory of the game popped into my head once again. I hit up google and put in the very vague wording.

After like an hour of scrolling through countless forums and websites, I jumped from my chair "YES! I FINALLY FUCKING FOUND IT!" I screamed out loud, startling all of my coworkers and supervisor. After a quick victory dance, I noticed that all 3 of my coworkers and supervisor just staring at me like I was crazy. I stopped and stared back, grinning but brightly red faced from embarrassment. "Do I even want to know?" My supervisor asked me. I explained, to their dismay and head shaking, "get back to work Puffy!"

I sat back down still highly embarrassed but went to youtube and watched a 10 minute Let's Play of it before actually working at work. Those 24,000+ AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D and 9V batteries (5 different brands) wouldn't test/replace themselves, nor would the 1000 lithium ion batteries. Tedious, boring testing >.>

The first game I remember playing for the Apple II was a Space Invaders clone, as well as this educational program called Super Key, which was for learning how to type on a keyboard..

I bought my Atari 800 that year from lawn mowing money. :) I still have Lode Runner around here somewhere that I could play on my Atari 130XE that is still set up with two floppy drives (one 3.5"), a hard drive (Maxtor 320Mb SCSI), a high speed 24 pin dot matrix printer, and a 12" S-video Magnavox monitor. It may be the only 8 bit computer in the world with furry porn on its hard drive. ;)
