Removing all of the context from the situation and looking at it from a base level, holding someone accountable for their actions in such a high degree enforces a level of discipline is almost necessary for someone who holds power over the life or death of other people. If the military/police force/ whatever you want to call the warrior caste of the modern era were held to the same standards as they were centuries ago, they would be much more disciplined, and do a much better job with less fuck ups.
I'm not saying using the threat of death to get what he wants is justified, but he seems to have a sense of honor regarding the situation, despite how morally bankrupt it may be uwu
