Being a colonel gives you the ability to travel outside your regiment and brush elbows with the other commanding officers. From what I hear, Sunnyside Citadel is a pretty happening place for the top brass and there are usually monthly get togethers with other regimental commanders.
I'm totally okay with demoting you though, Captains have a lot to do running their individual companies though. You don't get out much.
