I've seen a bumper sticker quite some time ago like the one I have depicted here, and it did make quite an impression on me. I decided to put together a drawing recycled from an older upload and share the sticker.
The funny thing is from ones like that is both I taught myself too read after they failed and every WW2 servicemen I've meet always scoffed at such sayings. By the way that is them saying it not me. I was always friendly and respectful (the same as I'd be too anyone regardless but we never cared too get sappy or romantic about it (ending talking too one for over an hour by being casual and not hero-worshiping).
By the way if there were a kid in there I bet he/she would be leaning over the back seat looking out the rear windscreen at the viewer!

Grew up on guys like Upham I guess. The latter you talk of may not always be telling you their story. Was at an air show about 10 years ago looking at a collection of models and an old guy added one too it and after remarking on it he said it was the one he flew. Talked for about an hour, little or nothing about combat though. Another time meet one of the guys who inspired the Death Star attack in Star Wars.
