Javalier has been installing new augmentations in his body: extendable limbs; auxiliary retractable arms (great for dual footrubs); size, sex and species shifting through reality code hacking; miniaturized respirator (automatically enabled when in airless (usually tight, warm, moist) environments); and intelligent auditory filtering that replaces illogical arguments with music.

I love the filter! What is that song about?

That would be Andrea Bocelli's "Con Te Partirò".

It's just a cute, passionate love song.

This is how I imagine DrJavi internal thoughts when people spout insanity like that, or playing this music.

Javi's bionic technology is subsidized by the government.
If you need an augmentation, the State will pay for it.

That's okay, Esperanza's Outsider Retrieval and Guidance Corps look for survivors away from the city, just find a way to signal your position and they'll go fetch you.

When we get these kinds of things commercially available... I'll probably end up a few years behind the curve, with exceptions for things that become medically necessary (judging by my current state, that'll be my lungs first). Why? Because if people are getting their smart refrigerators hacked to mine cryptocurrency, I really don't want some release-day security exploit showing up in my arm or head, only to be told "sorry, it'll be a few months before we can get that patched". (Though that last bit may just be me being bitter about my phone being vulnerable to Heartbleed for months after it was publicly announced...) I tend to prefer technology that's had some time to shake the most egregious bugs out, though I'd appreciate it being well supported in the long term (imagine if I had retinal implants running Windows XP or 7 these days...).

That's a very wise approach.
