Lion Guard leader, Kion, led his friends towards the antelopes, still slowly approaching Makuu's domain. Beshte the hippopotamus walked steadily near the lake, with Fuli the cheetah and Bunga the honey badger right behind him. Ono the egret flew above them. The crocodiles within the waters noticed the young animals and braced for a bite.
"Antelopes! Get back," Kion yelled as he skidded to a halt, "You can find water near Mapema Rock." The antelopes swiftly faced the young lion cub. They stared back at the crocodiles' lake, seemingly pondering yet another attempt to drink amid quick stomps to the ground. Kion looked to Beshte and the hippo steadily moved at the herd's front.
"Easy there, just back away and I'll lead you to water." Beshte moved forward and the herd obeyed the hippo's head bobs. Ono swooped onto his friend's back.
"It's much safer than here, lead them between the trees, Beshte." Ono pointed a wing forward and the two began their march.
Kion glanced to Makuu, spearing the cub with one last glare. He growled a signal to his float, soon disappearing under the lake's dark ripples. The cub sighed and reunited with Bunga and Fuli.
"That was close, Kion. Zazu's report sure helped us get an early start." Fuli said. She noticed Beshte struggling forth and back. Several antelopes were wandering off course.
"Don't worry guys, I'll help him out. I'll get word back to Pride Rock, Kion. Be careful out here." Fuli sprinted to Beshte, now pushing past a log to help a wandering antelope pass. Kion's ears sprung up, listening to a peculiar rhythm of grunts.
"Do you hear that?" Kion asked. Bunga tilted an ear.
"It's coming from the other side of the lake!"
The two moved around the shore, soon encountering the sound's source. Pua, the former leader of Makuu's float, sat on a rocky shore over a small pond. He was weeping.
Kion had never seen such a massive predator do so. He approached closer as Bunga stepped out from a patch of grass. The crocodile did not stir, seemingly unaware of the young ones' presence.
"I haven't seen Pua in a while. He's still out here on his own?" Bunga whispered. Kion frowned and tensed his shoulders.
"That's not something I wish on anyone. Even Janja has his friends, at least I think they're friends." Kion whispered back. He glanced at his paws and his ears fell to their sides. Pua's sorrowful growls pinched the air as a rumbling cloud.
"Come on Kion, I don't think we should disturb him." Bunga said, retreating into the elongated grass blades. Kion hesitated, glancing back at Pua. The young lion winced, soon turning back to the savanna.
