PONYSONA ALERT! :D
Getting to understand horse anatomy better, but gosh pointers are so appreciated, if ever anyone has the time. I’m not sure about her color scheme either; will try to make the blue-gray lighter next time and see if I can do the dappled effect better; I kinda mucked it up this go around. Will also thin her a wee bit; I'm a dainty li'l thing in real life XD This will probably go to scraps whenever I get another picture up of her.
Cutie mark backstory ramble below.
Silver Lining is a Pegasus /Unicorn mix. Since she was born with no recognizable Pegasus traits, her parents gave her an old, common Pegasus name to point to that half of her heritage in some way. She has none of the skills normally connected to Pegasi, not even cloudwalking or cloudshaping. (Some part of her longs to fly all the same, and she’s secretly wasted a fair lot of time brooding over that.)
As a little filly, she could sense a great deal of different expectations from both sides of her large family. Afraid to disappoint someone, she started faking a cutie mark early on; one that changed subtly with each pony to view it. For years, she kept that illusion spell on herself, but for obvious reasons, it caused problems whenever she was talking to more than one pony at a time - and when she tried to live up to all the different images they got of her.
The end to that act came at a large family gathering, as she faced too many ponies with different hopes for her. Clinging to the illusion, she went from the changing mark, to different marks on each side... To a butt that flashed pictures faster than a slot machine, until finally she cracked, broke the spell and stood as the only adult blank flank in the whole room.
Giving up, she blubbered out that she’d been fooling everyone; that she just picked up on what they were wishing for and shown it to them; that illusions were the only things she was ever really good at, and left an array of reactions behind her as she ran out of the room...
...too occupied with feeling ashamed, stupid and angry at herself to notice that her flank wasn’t blank anymore. And the cloud-shaped thought bubble - a symbol of thoughts translated into an image - was there to stay.
With time, she learns to create vivid illusions to tell stories and cheer people up with pretty images. She comes to live for making imagery that picks people up and lends them new strength, hope and faith in themselves when they feel lonely, run down, sad or scared or just need a boost of positive feelings.
