Astatine is the first element that has absolutely no use at all outside the laboratory, present or past. So here's a winking Autumn Blaze – she's unstable, like all kirins, with the nirik flames in the background. The element's etymology is from the Greek for "unstable".
Interestingly enough, a 1931 claim to the discovery of astatine called it alabamine, with symbol Ab. The element was definitely discovered in 1940.
