In my head he’s confident, intelligent and bisexual as fuck. Don’s not someone who will tell himself no, especially if it’ll feel good or be fun. He’s on the dance floor during a party for at least 80% of the time. He loves loud music, loves socialising and is usually running on caffeine. if he’s not up working on something, he’s partying until the wee hours of the morning (usually with leo).
He’s started a small business creating harmless gadgets for those in the Youkai world, which is lucrative but nothing huge. It’s mostly like doorbells that double as security systems. Unfortunately, Don knows too well how his tech can be turned into weapons to help those that want to do shit to innocent people so he tends to keep his really revolutionary ideas within arms length. He doesn’t want to be rich and famous, but loves having his ego stroked and being acknowledged. His main source of income comes from general tech repairs and computer fix ups/upgrades. He’s busy.
Don’s learnt his place in the team. He knows he doesn’t have to prove himself anymore. Donnie’s more Don than he’s ever been. His main Thing is that he isn’t comfortable without his battleshell. Not even really around his brothers. He sleeps without it (and boy did that take a while to stop after he initally started, and even now he'll sleep with it when he's feeling particularly vulnerable), but if he’s awake and away from his bed then it’s on. He’s managed to combine a lot of his old shells together. draxum is the one that helped donnie implant microchips on either side of his head so he no longer needs to actively touch his "goggles". him and draxum have become close in the lab. donnie respects draxum's brains and creativity, and it's nice to have someone who knows what he's talking about and actively tells him that his work is good.
there's always been an attraction to raph, but unlike raph (who hasn't slept with anyone until don and actively acknowledges that he has these feelings) he gets around and doesn't fully realise his feelings until much muuuch later. he has a Type. three guesses to what that is and the first two don't count. ;P he isn't in touch with his emotions and actively seeks to ignore them. it isn't until leo basically smacks him in the face with the fact that don's been more touchy and receptive to raph, he'd probably skip over his own feelings forever.
where as raph takes the news of their second gender pretty well, donnie takes it extremely hard. he feels icky and like he's been lied to. him and draxum dont do their usual science talk for a loooong time. he does test after test on himself and raph, working out how the fuck this could have happened without his notice. he doesn't rest until raph forces him to. he does eventually make peace with the idea, but is incredibly paranoid about raph and his future activities. he never ever wants kids. shelldon and his machines are enough.
he develops birth control for raph, who takes it religiously. in fact raph does everything donnie wants with little resistance. it's weird. he's not really ever had someone treat him with the utmost respect raph displays in regards to their non-relationship. the few people he's dated have been a bit pushy about his boundaries (and he's been so in return).
He updates the Love Nest with all the best security, strongest walls, a collection of battleshells, etc. eventually, so long as raph's with him, it does start to feel like home.
