Of course not! The hippocampus is a bit lower on the brain. The left side of the brain is where all the logic and rational thoughts are, so yeah, she should be completely fine.

Indeed! That's one of the reasons why I didn't kill her last minute (thereby changing the plot I'd already written out). It's a good thing to have safety anchors, so that you don't throw yourself too far out to sea and fuck things up for yourself because you wanted a change.

Wait, what was the safety anchor in this one? I'm pretty sure it's impossible to fully survive a shot to the head... Let alone one at fucking point blank.

It depends on many factors, and GSW to the head I've seen plenty of people survive, both around the world and in real life! Also consider how far technology has advanced. They have sentient robots! It's very possible they could have developed something to save head GSW victims more often compared to our reality.

In all honestly, I am actually a GSW to the head victim. Did cause permanent damage (memory issues mostly), but I know it not too hard to believe she survived. That and also super futuristic.
Though... That does leave the question of what happens to Straxus, seeing as long as actual vital organs were not damaged, he would be able to be saved as well.

I'm surprised to hear that was actually the plan. I mean, I certainly believed you WOULD kill off your main character, but I didn't think you HAD yet, given the narration/commentary from the future that we saw earlier. But I guess maybe that's one of the loose ends you referred to below.

On the one hand killing off the main character would be a pretty noir way of ending the comic. It's the kind of ending that sticks with ya. There's a comic I read in the 90s where the ending is the only thing I vividly remember. Comes down to the protagonist having to choose between shooting his old mentor and his new mentor. He picks the new mentor. Cue touching embrace with old mentor, where the old man thanks the main character for his loyalty, then shoots him in the gut while admitting he actually was the traitor and the new mentor was right all along. Comic ends with main character bleeding out on the floor while the old mentor carries out summoning a daemon in the background (40k comic, Inquisition stories tend to play out like detective stories, but with larger caliber guns).
I honestly was expecting to see Jonesy die. End it like a Greek or Shakespearean tragedy. Though looking at it again there really isn't much in the way of pathos, so probably for the best you didn't kill her.

If I didn't have a few loose ends to tie up, I would have. I like bittersweet endings, which one would not get if I killed her off. Interesting to hear that other story, though!

She may not have died but there could still be lasting effects due to the trauma she had endured. If she is lucky barely anything will be affected however she could have lost memory, lost eyesight, loss of hearing, and loss of motor function. She can still smell and speak which is good however it could be a hard battle to recover, and during that she may be forced to retire all together, so in the end it was either going to be a funeral or long months to years of rehab. I love stories like this, its a lot more real that way.

So, she's alright. But what happened to Straxus? I mean, that wasn't a lethal shot, but he probably got all his motor system fucked up down the waist, and maybe will be stuck to a wheelchair

*Chuckles* Nice thing to say to the person that saved your ass XD .
Glad you didn't Kill her off, not that it woudn't have made for a good ending, but knowing you, you have something much more fitting in mind.
She loses her Sheild after months of pain and recovery, Straxus is in a Wheel Chair the rest of his life, but still alive and continues his drug trafacking and cop killing. That's the way I see it ending anyway.
