The female warrior is probably a IX century version of Oksana. But I was a little disappointed. I imagined her when she fights with longsword and shield on her back. But next I noticed that vikings haven't used longswords (this type of swords came in XII-XIII century).

Anyway. She could rly be a viking becouse a Kiev was a viking trade base these times. :D

sweeeet! She does make for a very awesome viking ;3
yeah swords in general was rare during the viking era due to the resources one needed to make one, and it was almost strictly for the rich to wield swords
But the shorter sword is cool as well ;3
i like the look of the male warrior as well! And that ship is awesome, ships are so hard to draw ;w;

Yep. I used a 3d model of skepp (drakkar) for my reference. But this one is smaller, probably somethin between snekkar or skeid. I always liked history very much, so I read a little before I started drawing. I read that Vikings reached as far as the Caspian Sea sailing the Volga. They bought steel and precious metals from Arabians. Anyway the method they used for forging swords (snake-shaped weave) probably comes from the Middle East. In fact, true, these swords were probably expensive and only the richest used them. So does the hauberk.

I have a friend who is a historical reconstructor of that period and she gave me some information about equipment and armament. I'll probably want to sketch it out for fun soon

honestly that's a piece of my favorite history: just how nuanced the vikings truly were. They were absolutely ALL over the place and did so much more than just raiding the fuck outta the french and the english for shits and giggles. I've heard, however i'm not sure how true it is as i've yet to look it up properly outta laziness lol, that a huge chunk of the population in Syria and Turkey are descendants of western Europeans who were taken captive by the vikings and proceeded to be sold as thralls there. As i said i can't confirm it, but i fully believe it knowing how chummy the vikings were with the muslims~ (In fact based off this: Isvindur, Krummi's mate, was born and raised in their world's equivalent to the middle east as his family left the islands to become mercenaries in the south)
while i'd love for Krummi to have a more historically accurate look, i'm a sucker for semi-fantasy aesthetics sooo... x'3

oh that's pretty awesome tho! I'd love to one day be doing some viking age reenactments as well! Unfortunately it's an expensive hobby and i'm broker than a mcdonald's ice cream machine x'3

It's nothing wrong with your universe being fantasy, which is only inspired by the Nordic world. You can add your own elements there, can't u? ;-)
Yep, vikings' ve sold slaves and furs etc. in the middle east and ve bought metals, fabrics. That's so many interesting motifs for comics, for example :D. The main hero and his gang trade slaves, rob Byzantine villages along rivers, complain that it is too hot in this faraway country (like your OC :P )

hehe, aye~ :D

yep and yep! I'd totally read a comic like that! Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the viking age and their legends, stories and myths is a too popular theme for comics and stories, which is a shame cause there definitely is so much potential... (Marvel's Thor doesn't count lmao)

There are comic books that are even quite popular! Thorgal, for example. Maybe someday I'll take up the subject myself when I finish my current projects in a few years.

oh... i must be remembering Thorgal wrong because i've always thought it had some gaelic vibes
but then again, i haven't read a Thorgal comic since i was like, 8 XD
dang i gotta see if i can read it somewhere cuz now i'm having an existential crisis! XD

well if you do i'm totally gonna read it! :D
heck once i'm done with Stoneheart i might turn to Krummi's story sooo~

You wrote that this comic book is happening in the same universe. So nothing stands in the way of Krummi appearing episodically, for example as a member of a caravan escort from the far north. First thought that came to my mind. ;-)

(It's probably because I now have a big hype for Mount n Blade game xd)

well that is true, we'll see if cameos happen in the future ;3

Mount and Blade eh? well i'mma have to look that up, sounds interesting~

You can, but this game is quite difficult. But this is such a cool sandbox that happens in the universe of medieval fantasy. You're a warlord who has to get his team together and you can do whatever you want in this world :D
