Veli wants to show Peace with Sonic, with a Hug. But Sonic is being stubborn and still doesn't trust her.
This is also a image to have a size comparison. She is pretty small almost the same size as Tails.

But so that people don't get the wrong idea the only main reason why Sonic doesn't trust Veli is simply because in his point of view After Dark Gaia defeat ALL of his minions vanish along with him, yet Veli is the only one sticking around which makes him suspicious. Add extra that she is Tails new friend and he worries about his best friends safety.

i gotta ask whats velis? that right veli? whats her story? i'm dead curious of how she came to be, due her to appearing to be a fragment of dark gaia plus ever since i played sonic unleashed i cant help but be with sonic on this one every-time i see this the one side of my brain shots were-hog smash!! while the other side said i should stop him before hes hurts someone

There will be a upcoming story of Veli Origin and how she would redeem herself but to answer. At First Veli did started off as a blob of darkness. With no memory or any clue of who or what she is. When she finally got her own form which you see now everyone was afraid of her cause of what Dark Gaia and his minions have done. Tails was the only one who was curious about this Nightmare and gain her trust and study her even teach her the English language and emotions. When Sonic found out about it he was furious at Tails and didn't trust Veli because yes in his Logic; how she can still be a Nightmare without Dark Gaia. Cause without Dark Gaia all the nightmares would've faded. She may look like a monster to fear but she is harmless. The Story may explain more.

hm alright, i wonder what chip will think of her, maybe her will be like a niece to an extent also i take as a fragment of dark gaia she'll also have the same proprieties as her kin but due her having more of mind than her kin she would show greater control over it?

Chip would maybe know more about Veli and her purpose being Light Gaia himself but since he is sealed within the earth he might not be able to assistance Veli. And you are correct. Since Veli is like her kin she does possessed the same powers like stretching out her limbs, mind controlling and even shapeshifting but since she does have more control she tries to uses it for good. And since she's not a mindless drone she may even discover more of what she can do.

interesting. my last thought would be dark Gaia itself, now i sadly cant remember much about dark Gaia except for its fragments and sonic going were hog due its energy being in his body. as a result the only thing i do remember about dg (im gonna call it dg because it calling it dark gaia alot is starting to get annoying abit for me) is the fact that its a giant lovecrafthen god of darkness with that it has all the monsterus parts that come with that name except for it's mind, i take in this story your making dg will have more of personality and mind to it rather then just being a mindless beast, now to the point (sorry about that) dg will learn about veli at some point so i image it will see her as one of two things either piece of its flesh ( or matter) or perhaps a kind of champion for the dark god? further more i can see a scene in my mind where the two are talking to each other and shes fighting to from losing herself to its influence.
