A friend recently brought 'Simba: the King Lion' (StKL) to my attention. StKL is another of those obscure little series that somehow has a fanbase. Personally, I'd seen only the first three episodes before deciding the series wasn't worth more of my time. Even so, after my friend reminded me of StKL, I sought a playlist of its episodes on YT to (if nothing else) refresh my memory of the series. StKL isn't nearly as bad as I remember---in fact, it's far worse, but in the most delightful way! I perused the playlist, and found StKL has some strange events and elements, esp. for something loosely inspired by The Jungle Book ...this series has dinosaurs in it---real ones! Not only that, its ceratopsians are carnivorous; hunting in packs like raptors. Their prey of choice: diplodocus ...diplodocus that growl like jaguars.
Yes, that's the voice of Buster Baxter, and no, Kaa doesn't coil around any Disney princesses in this series insofar as I've observed (albeit, I wouldn't put anything past StKL)! XD
...Anyway
Our ACEO subject here is Alex the Chipmunk (and, yes, Alex is female). Alex is some sort of medicine chipmunk ...which is a concept I find appealing. :3
TBH, I like a few of StKL's cast, with Alex and Toy being my favorites. As I browsed through the episodes, I had two thoughts:
1. This COULD have been an amazing series had there been better hands and minds behind it (StKL is from Mondo, that blessed studio which brought us Tentacolino).
2. StKL would have made a great RPG back in the day. I'm serious about this---all the elements are here! A crazy, unpredictable story, and a varied cast of mostly likable characters. You've got your general hero (Simba), the best buddy (Buckshot), the white mage/healer (Alex), the dark magic user (Kaa), the 'power' fighter (Baloo), the quirky-weapon user (Toy), the obligatory character who joins near the end who would have been useful several chapters back (Flash), among others.
Coming-of-age, jungle, revenge, pirates, dinosaurs: it's all here! XD
