Part 4 of 5 of a little series I am drawing where Ion, due to his serous injury where he went into cardiac arrest and almost died years ago, left some permanent damage to the left side of his heart, causing irregular heart beat that required a pacemaker to make it function somewhat normally. Over time though the left side of his heart weakens causing both aortic and mitral regurgitation, to a point where he has to undergo open heart surgery to replace both.
The doors to operating room 5 opened with Meeka and Oliver pushing a gurney out with a sleeping Ion on top of it. Oliver focused on navigating the halls while Meeka focused on pumping fresh air into Ion's lungs, using the hand pump attached to his oxygen mask as Ion's body was in a bit of shock coming out of a fairly major heart surgery. They wheeled him into the patient tower, bringing Ion up to the 5th floor where the private rooms were located. Not too far from the elevators, was a room where the door was wide open, wide enough to let a gurney pass through, with a few people inside. Meeka and Oliver parked Ion's gurney near a wall of equipment, locking it in place. Meeka began to hook up Ion's oxygen hose to the hospitals internal pipes and then Ion's IV to a few bags of medicine, while Oliver moved the wires from the portable ECG to the one on the wall, as the sound of Ion's heart beat beeps filled the room.
Not too long after bringing Ion into the room, he could be heard making soft moans, as the people started to gather around his bed as his eyes started to slowly open. Ion's vision was a bit blurry as he was feeling fairly drained of energy, but as his vision started to come back to him, a smile started to appear on his face. Looking up, he could see his father Ivan looking happily down on him, with Meeka and his mate Zephyr standing beside him. But what filled Ion with more joy was that Kyara, Garrette and Lazar, his other friends/comrades in his team, standing there to keep him some company as well, with Oliver taking point at the end of the bed, enjoying the lovingness and caring that was being experienced in the room. Ion's friends canceled the Hunting contract they were on so that they could be here in his time of need, giving him all the support they could, which Ion really appreciated.
As Meeka and Oliver had to take off to perform more surgeries on other patients, Ion's family and friends spent the remainder of the visiting hours spending time with him, keeping him company though they could all see that Ion was struggling to stay awake as he seamed really tired. Meeka would pop in here and there, checking up on Ion and making sure he was still in good condition but when she saw that Ion really needed some rest, she made his friends leave a bit early though Zephyr was permitted to stay behind, as he was going to spend the night by Ion's side. Meeka left last, telling Zephyr not to keep the lights on too late, before closing the door, leaving Ion and Zephyr alone in the room. Zephyr went back to Ion's side and noticed he was fast asleep, his vitals were normal and his breathing seamed relaxed giving a load off Zephyr's mind that his mate would be ok.
It was still a bit early in the night for Zephyr but he was feeling tired as well, so he set up the small sofa in the room to sleep on, turned off the lights and got some rest himself, making sure Ion was still fine before closing his eyes. Ion would spend the next couple of weeks recovering in the hospital, with his friends visiting him everyday and Zephyr always by his side every step of the way. Ion made good progress, as he was recovering fairly quickly, by the end of the week he was permitted as long as he was with Zephyr, to be able to get out of bed and walk around. Zephyr made sure to be a brace for Ion as they did their walks, as he was still a bit shaky and week in the legs, making sure he did not fall over and hurt himself. It wasn't before long the the day finally came where Ion could leave the stuffiness of his hospital room and continue to recover at home. ~
yes, his condition is manageable as he is still able to do anything he wants to do. Little later on in life though Ion does get a synthetic heart that will fully cure his heart condition, where he will never have to worry about it or heart surgery anymore
