The people of Three River Island call themselves "sunchildren". The town is known for its rich gold deposits, which the sunchildren regard as a blessing from Father Sun. Three RIver Island has a Town Chief, who is also the lead Shaman and Priest, and who has a girly gay-ass looking little son. During special events, the shaman bathes in gold dust, and has his hair dyed with gold. Sunchildren have developed a process for "gold dying", which uses ultrafine gold dust, highly tannic water, and electric fish called "knifefish". For important ceremonies, key people in the village get to bathe in gold as well, which is why little Sugar Summer, as the son of the Chief, gets to have his hair dyed gold.
