I wonder, do you remember how they treated Evie earlier in the story? I'm willing to bet this is bully as much as it's being assertive. Granted it's more aggressive than is tasteful but I wouldn't say she's a bully so much as she's forceful. She's not doing it to torment them, just making sure they're no longer being bullied themselves.

No, but she could end up a bully if all she does is lash out at other, mindlessly. Some deserve it, but not all. Did that girl deserve it? She wants to fight back now and is determined to not be used or hurt again. That's good, but not every one is her enemy.

We already know that's not what happened. Big difference between bullying and being assertive. That's an important distinction and an important lesson to learn in life. You can't always be the nice guy if you plan to navigate the world.

Being assertive is good, but making more enemies than needed is not. You can't far in life if you only shake a clenched fist at it. The matron was already an enemy in that she hated them, but that girl. Why attack her? She's done nothing yet to deserve that. Stella's determination to stand against others is fine, but if she tries to fight everyone, she'll find herself with no one else.

She didn't attack her. She DID threaten her. Have you ever heard of establishing dominance? You know that thing that people and animals do naturally, even subconsciously? There was nothing personal there. She wasn't picking on the girl and as I said there's a distinct difference between assertion and bullying. Stop trying to justify that accusation. What we know about Stella's character doesn't fit with it.

I'm worried about Stella's character. Her getting lost in her own darkness. Becoming just like her father, in that she's lashing out at everything. That's my concern here

We already know how she turns out years from these events. Her life with Evie has had a remarkably positive influence on her. She might deck someone now and again but from all that we've seen it's only when provoked.
That's no bully, that's just someone unwilling to be a victim. People have the right to defend themselves and fight for those that they hold dear. With that in mind God help anyone that lays a hand on Evie.

Wait wait wait. I take it back. Go back and read page 15 again! Bobby's the one that dumped the bucket of filthy water on Evie's head. She's striking back at those that tormented and bullied Evie. Man oh man, that plot thickens.

Yeah and Evie gave him food bet he feels lower then dirt right now. He had that coming. But Evie says Stella is changing and not in a way Evie likes. She's getting meaner more wanting to hurt someone. Whether they deserve it or not.
