December 24th, 2265
Kayla has a video conference with her parents.She is done begging for answers, so she doesn't anymore. She tells them she will be leaving her current home and state, and she will be moving to one of the mansions her parents own. She will be dropping out of school, too.
Her parents obviously don't allow this, but Kayla doesn't care. They have been absent for years, parents or not, they are no one to tell her what to do.
She has enough money to comfortably sustain herself 10 lifetimes, so she'll take it and live by herself. No more Babysitters or school, no more "When are you coming home?".
Was she too harsh? is she sure about this?
Aren't her parents actually awesome, for letting her take one of their mansions all for herself? what is even all this?
Kayla's head doesn't let her sleep during the flight. So many questions!
New city...new house...new life...
January 1st, 2266,
Kayla calls her parents with tears in her eyes. They comfort her, and she comforts them. They apologize, for everything, and so does she. She wishes for the best, and so do they. It's been 3 hours already, and they keep talking. Kayla feels that in this singular moment, more love has been shared between her and her parents that in the 15 years Kayla has been alive.
However, talking is the way problems are solved, talking is the way to settle things, talking. They sound genuinely sorry, too.
5 hours. Aren't her parents supposed to be doing something else?
That question crosses her mind multiple times, but she puts it away. Eventually, everything is settled. Kayla lets out a gigantic sigh. Its almost as if in that sigh, a life time of troubles goes away. She feels so relieved. She is not scared of this anymore, she is extremely confident, she is full of hope. She looks at the city and the endless ocean, lets see what the future has in store! This is the day her new life begins...
Oh, kayla, one last thing.
You have a sister.
Kayla drops the phone, it shatters on the floor.
