Blue Titan Chronicles 11
The red scaled bangaa hadn’t expected it to be this cold up north, however considering that he came from the more tropical regions of the southwest anything cooler than scorching hot often left him shivering.

“Hey, BT,” Buukaz called out over the rushing winter winds which rippled across his scaly form. The massive intangir beneath him flicked one of its ears in his direction letting the four eared reptile know that he had his mount’s attention. “I think we should try and find some kind of shelter.” the blue behemoth let out a deep grumble as it continued to pad its way through the ankle deep snow. “I know that you can handle these temperatures, oh mighty titan, but I can’t feel my toes anymore.” it didn’t help that the bangaa didn’t have any shoes on, but it was almost impossible to find footwear that would fit his large clawed feet, back home in the marshes his people didn’t bother with such things as the toughened pads on the ends of their soles gave them enough protection against the various plantlife which grew within their homeland.

BT let out another grumble and then lifted his massive head in order to look at the surrounding land.

A veil of pure white covered the entire expanse around him, the snow pelting down from the gray sky up above wasn’t helping things any as it trailed over his whiskered face. Narrowing his eyes the intangir pushed his vision to the limit in order to try and find something resembling a ‘shelter’ which would protect both himself and his little companion, this was often rather hard seeing as not too many places were able to contain a creature of his size and magnitude. Grumbling deep within his chest the blue behemoth lowered his head and then continued to pad on further, if push came to shove he would find a space where the bangaa would be safe and then shield the other with his bulk. It had happened more than once in the several months that the two of them had been together and so BT had no issue with doing such a thing again in order to protect his herdmate.

Thinking over his relationship with the two legged reptile made the titanous beast recall the events which had led to him partnering with the smaller lizard.

In the beginning he hadn’t allowed the other to travel on his back, as the red reptile wasn’t his cub or a wounded member of his herd, however that quickly became an issue for their travels as the bangaa just wasn’t able to keep up with his long strides. So begrudging he allowed the other to ride him, Buukaz didn’t weigh him down as his herculean strength was more than able to shoulder the burden of the hundred plus pound reptile, though there was something about having the often squirming bundle resting on his backside that made him growl and snap at the lizard. Thankfully Buukaz was smart enough to understand what his incensed outbursts meant and so he was able to get the bangaa to settle down before he could throw the other off of him. Though his normal way of speaking was something that often created a barrier of understanding between the two, the intangir’s grunts and growls, which were easy for others of his kind to discern, seemed to be almost incomprehensible to the bangaa.

The first few times when they had been bedding down together he had suddenly jumped up when a scent on the wind brought with it a warning of danger, and yet in barking at the other to get up so that they could get to a better vantage point often never happened as the red lizard hadn’t been able to understand what it was that he had been trying to say at the time.

More than once they had been attacked by another monster while they were sleeping out underneath the stars or within the shelter of a forest, and while Buukaz had been able to aid him in his battles with his strange ability to create plumes of heat the blue behemoth suffered numerous assaults while trying to defend the two of them. The bangaa would often be quite apologetic as he tried the best he could to mend the wounds that he received, the little lizard used some strange form of cooling power which swept over his entire body instead of licking his wounds as others of his kind would, and yet the blue behemoth often found himself growing more and more annoyed with the other. It finally got to a point where something was going to have to be done between them when they were suddenly attacked by bipedal metal clad monsters, like the ones that had assaulted him and his herd so long ago; the memory of everything he had lost spurred the intangir into unchaining a fury he didn’t know he had within him once the creatures dropped down from the airship hoving within the air.

The carnage the titanous beast unleashed was so terrifying that Buukaz was barely able to keep his stomach from turning as he watched blood, bone, metal, and cartilage soar throughout the air as the blue behemoth ripped all of the soldiers apart.

That was until a large cannon ball was shot at the intangir.

The blue behemoth hadn’t been injured from the attack though as a wall of yellow light wrapped around him, his toughened hide, already powerful within itself, made the metal splinter and then fall onto the blood stained grass around when the ball smashed into his side.

Snapping his head down he looked to see his herdmate standing by his side, the small red lizard was desperately holding up his scaly hands as he shouted words that the titanous beast had never heard before. The intangir, who still caught within the throes of his rage, didn’t quite understand what was happening as he locked his glowing amber eyes onto the smaller reptile. However, when a massive ball of fire shot down from the large metal bird flying in the sky he quickly picked up the red lizard with his teeth and then ran off into the darkness of the night just as the ground where he had been standing erupted into an array of orange light and scalding heat.

Traveling through the plains towards the nearby mountains some miles away the blue behemoth didn’t stop running until the adrenaline rush which had empowered his body finally wore off. Once he felt the claws of fatigue start to grip at his heart he slowed down and then dropped the other onto the dirt beneath. When the red lizard started to say something to him anger made the intangir slap a paw down next to the smaller creature.

They were going to solve their little language problem, even if he had to smack the other around to get certain things through to the red reptile!

Thankfully it hadn’t come to that though.

A line of communication was bridged between the two of them once the bangaa was able to go into a nearby town and purchase a scroll from a helpful moogle that would help him and the blue behemoth ‘share minds’ with one another. The bangaa wasn’t sure that he was okay with whatever that was supposed to mean, however his rising concern over the growing ire the intangir kept throwing his way made him somewhat desperate to solve the issue at hand.

And, truth be told, he didn’t want to lose the only real friend he had, after all.

Chanting the spell which was written onto the aged parchment both the intangir and bangaa found themselves out of sorts as they felt the spell flow around and then inside of them. A dull light filled their eyes as blue runic letters spun inside of their eyes before flowing out and then upwards into a massive sphere. A few seconds later the wording became golden in color and then split. When the letters returned back inside of the bangaa and intangir the pair gasped and then collapsed onto the ground, their eyes shimmering wildly as the runes firmly settled into their psyches.

“Th-that was unpleasant.” Buukaz said once he gained control over his body.

The sound of the little lizard’s voice echoing within his ears had made the blue behemoth blink in confusion. He then let out a rough chuff as he asked the question which had been on his mind.

“No, I’m not sure what exactly what was supposed to happen with this spell.” the bangaa chuckled nervously as he looked into deep gold eyes. He then blinked as realization overcame him. “But I guess the moogle was spot on though, because it seemed to have worked.” The blue behemoth let out a grunt bark as he slowly got back up to his feet. “Hey, let’s just go with it.” the red reptile shrugged, his muscular lithe arms rising up and brushing against his four floppy ears before he smiled at the intangir. “By the way, my name is Buukaz. What’s yours?”

The blue behemoth hadn’t known what to say to this since names were not used by those of his species, instead everyone’s personal scent just told others who that particular behemoth was. He let out a rough grumble in order to let the smaller lizard know this.

“Yeah, well, um…” the bangaa struggled to find the right way to say what was on his mind. Eventually he just sighed and spoke his thoughts aloud. “While you have a nice scent,” the reptile said after flicking his tongue out from his mouth. “I don’t think you want me to call you ‘Smoke wood and sweaty ash’ all the time, do you?” the intangir growled and shook his head at that. “Right. So um...how about I call you BT?” The name made the blue behemoth tip his head to the side in confusion. “Well, you’re a behemoth that’s as big as a titan, so Behemoth who is a Titan, or BT for short.” Buukaz squirmed after speaking his thoughts up to the other.

The blue behemoth could only chuff in confusion at that.

“What do you mean you’ve never seen a titan before?!” Buukaz gaped.

And that was how things had gone between them ever since.

So far the pair were headed down to the north because the bangaa had heard tales about a vast cavern filled with gems that was just waiting to be plundered. Buukaz had been so overjoyed to hear about such a treasure trove that he hadn’t thought to ask about the weather conditions within the north, and so they had to make a small stop in order to collect some warmer clothes for his fraile reptilian body. BT hadn’t been bothered by the cold as his two massive hearts pumped enough blood through his body to elevate his temperature. Buukaz had teased him about being a living heater after getting back up onto his back, to which the intangir then asked him what a heater was. That had been a conversation which held them over for quite a while as the bangaa had to explain several things to the blue behemoth regarding modern technology, most of these wonders the titanous beast still didn’t quite understand but that was fine since it made for good conversation between them.

BT let out a bark as he suddenly saw a large mound in the distance.

“Thank sweet Bahamut!” the bangaa cheered as he noticed a large covering coming closer and closer as the intangir raced towards it. “And here I was dreading us spending another night out in the snow again.”

BT let out a warm grumble at that.

“Says the one whose body feels like an overgrown thrown rug!” Buukaz laughed as he clutched tightly onto the behemoth.
