Well if you consider some of the law pf physics and the way a landscape may be shaped there could be an abundance of groundwater or even oil buried far deep beneath the depths of a desert, barren landscape, and few other such terrains.

Right, but. There are holes on every side of where he pointed out. I know underground rivers generally aren't perfectly straight, but I'd like to think that the people who dug before him would have stumbled upon some wet dirt or stone or something.
… but, here's something I hadn't considered: It could just be a case of "you didn't dig deep enough." I don't think it was mentioned how far down those holes go.

You'd think so since Fennecs are mostly desert dwelling. Then again they are frail, small creatures not suitable for digging either. If I were to buy a slave for digging holes, I'd probably buy for muscle and hard work. However I don't think the biology of feral Fennecs apply to humanized ones, so It could be true for Fennecs in this world to be buffer and stronger than their Earth counterparts. Shen's sonar ears is just one example of having traits from his animal friends, unlike zaphira who walks on two legs which would point that animal biology doesn't always mean equals traits to be carried over from animal to man. It seems the world bends some for leeway, and It's not like we have flying cats here...that we know of. I don't know how close the biology is to their counterparts, but near the beginning we'd seen some rather buff specimens, and I'm not sure if these were part of their character, or species. It could be that people here take traits after their counterparts like Shen sonar hearing. It could be that muscle mass does or does not apply a max value based on species. We don't know.
