This picture started out like I was going to draw it the toony way, and then I didn't. Also, the background mountains have two tones, and everything else has one. So yeah it might look a little weird, I might go back and DX it at a later time...
Anyhoo, three things about Tempest:
• Tempest is wifey. Please be OK and happy, woobie scar pony. • No cutie mark has ever been shown for her. This design for one just abruptly flew into my head (based on the fireworks she performs as her first Good Deed). I feel like I've seen it somewhere before, but I was unable to find anything. Let me know if you figure it out! I feel like I subconsciously stole somebody's cool fantasy RPG graphic or something... • There's no strong implication that Tempest's scarred eye has compromised sight at all, but I like to draw that one as different from the other and interpret her as not being able to see well out of it. I'll experiment with various ways to depict this in future artwork of Tempest. Don't Google cataracts, they're creepy.
Also I rewrote the lyrics to Open Up Your Eyes because I love to underscore character development through reprises where the meaning of the song is totally changed.
As with that Digimon thing I did earlier, I haven't written down the meter and probably nobody can figure out where each of the syllables go but here it is anyway.
It's time to raise your banner It's time to right what is wrong To realize what you already knew You needn't be cruel to be strong
You lashed out in anger You didn't know what else to do You don't need to be a monster To be your strongest you
Open up your eyes Be the stars this stormy night Once you shunned the fallen Now stand for them and fight Open up your eyes And let your scars herald your might Don't lose your heart and don't lose sight No more lies Open up your eyes
Your heart has long been clothed in desiccated pain Hidden from the sun and moon and never touched by rain But now there comes a calling, a sudden crack within the stone A light within your darkness, that should have always shone
Familiar rain stings harshly, and though it chills you to the bone Your eyes are blazing brighter, than when you fought for you and you alone
Open up your eyes Show you still have tears to cry You have heard the tempest But now you see the sky Open up your eyes And let the shadows fall behind You may be broken, and half-blind You will rise Open up your eyes
