Thanks. I'd never heard of it before. According to what you said, it must be, what, 4'6" long from the upper bend to the bell? I KNEW I should have gone to the link before my comment. After looking at the photo, I'm more inclined to say it's a full 5+ feet in length.

The instrument is around 4 feet long, and the bend adds another few inches. It comes up to my chest when resting on the ground. And if you really want your mind blown... Behold.

Wow! Those two ladies on the far right of the conductor had to stand on boxes to hold their instruments. Those are some BIG instruments. That said, it does make some beautiful music. It's hard to describe what it sounds like other than beautiful.

Well, I've never heard of Doom Metal but, if it's more metal than Heavy Metal, I don't think I'd enjoy it. (The heaviest music I like is classical.) However, I could imagine that kind of music as background music in a classic "horror" movie, i.e. Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Frankenstein (Glenn Strange), Werewolf (Lon Chaney, Jr.), or any silent horror movie (pre-1930).

Well, I remember "Stairway to Heaven". I actually liked that song. That's definitely a cool bit of trivia about the "flute" solos because I actually did believe that was flutes in the song.
