My interpretation of how I would like to be the sonic design in the movie. I tried to keep some details of the movie, but at my style. Why the pants? Well, if he will look more "realistic" I feel that he will need to cover some parts, and if they give him "NI..." shoes, why not runner shorts? =P
You can download this and other pics in HD, alternative versions and sketches, also make requests and suggestions about characters and thematics. Thanks in advance.
One of my biggest pet peeves are for realistic designs is, that if there is one solid V-shape of hair etc.. it usually looks like a strange appendage filled with fat, covered in hair. Like Sonic's "spines" in this movie's design. Here the problem is completely fixed, it looks so neat!
I love it..! One of my biggest pet peeves are for realistic designs is, that if there is one solid
Given how much money I imagine went in to the official thing....I have seen so many better designs. Yours is my favourite I think, sticking with that realism and separate eye thing...but far more playful in his face and the outfit gives a better sense of who he is

The idea here is very similar to the movie's, but you managed to make it look SO much better. Not sure if it's the clothing, or if it's just the consistency of the picture, or maybe it's just that his eyes actually look they have a soul inside of them, it just looks better.

You know, I was actually thinking myself that the trailer had a bit of a Paul vibe to it, and that as such half the problem with his proportions in any "realistic" style is that he's NAKED. Like, you know, when you see almost any human naked, they just generally look a bit weird. Like when you see your work colleagues out of their uniform and hat. Everybody looks weird. I feel like the issue with the trailer is also partly due to the fact that he looked like a failed attempt at human anatomy; and I've drawn my fair share of those, so I know what I'm talking about, haha. =P Maybe it's just me, but I feel like in that close-up shot... you can kind of see the rectangular, polygonal shape of the nose too, like some amateur 3D model that's just been smoothed... which I've also done my fair share of. XD
I love your take on the design though. ^_^
