Really the piece that started the whole love affair with these characters. Far more in line with the traditional D&D concepts of Snow Elves and Derro. Though even then I found the concept of snow elves merely being elves with winter themed clothing boring and "spiced up" his biology. I also fancied the idea of a stockier species of elves. With that said, its time for proper introductions.
From the lands of ice and snow, the duo is odd enough at face value but adventuring companions are well aware, step in this rabbit hole and you’ll fall into a pit.
Rannath puts on the appearance and likes to think of himself as “The Paragon”. Striving to be that perfect moral compass: self sufficient, self sacrificing, brave, merciful, a leader and loyal friend…buut he’s also a heterodoxical cleric out to save the souls of the downtrodden and the wicked with his new self-realized faith in how perfect the elf creator god actually is for everybody. And though he holds many virtues in high esteem, truthfulness is not one of them.
Vide is a Derro and Rannath’s first successful conversion…as far as he knows. Derro are, unfortunately, violently insane by default and Vide did not escape this cycle. After failing to capture/commit-unspeakable-acts-against Rannath’s party, she found herself spared by the very man she had a sadist lust for. While darkest lechery has passed, her mania has merely been transmuted into rabid obsession for the one individual who did and has continued to show her kindness.
Everyone, including the naive elf, best tread lightly though. Prone to murderous jealousy: Vide lives in constant terror that she’ll grow too old to interest him, that he’ll die on his futile quest, that she is only pitied or worse, that its all a sick joke to begin with. She fears being alone. So beneath the veil of a smarmy miscreant is a woman whose delusion and paranoia will drive her to any end to ensure her fairy tale happy ending.
Its a dangerous game of subtly and willful ignorance on both sides. Each spiraling on a quest bound to put one in the grave. It will take a miracle to cure Vide of her madness, but a miracle is just what cleric can provide and what Rannath is after.
