I've met furries irl, it has NEVER been a good idea. Only once did I meet someone not out of their noggin, but we live on different sides of one of the largest cities in the US so meeting often isn't an option.

See, I know the concept of furries being socially inept is quite common (I'm no exception). But that's freaking ridiculous. SMH.
