Got a nice big box today ^^ And set off to disassemble my DIY drafting table thing I just finished the other day. It was hard to assemble and the instructions were easy. There's plenty of reviews for Ergotron arms on youtube though.
One unique thing I had to do was make a small thing to support my keypad. Instead making something out of wood and waiting for glue to dry, I thought it would be quicker and lighter to just use cardboard and 3 coat hangers :) Yeah...I know, they're ghetto, but sooo easy to use! Basically, I broke off the long part, and bent it into a triangular shape to rest against the small edge of the cintiq. I used some heavy duty double-sided tape everywhere to stick it all together and protect some surfaces.
I'm sure I could do the same for the top and right sides if I really wanted to. It's stable enough to type on :D
So how does this stack up against my homemade thang? Well....
Pros:
VERY adjustable
allows me to actually stand up and draw if I feel like it
swivels out of the way when I don't need it, leaving my whole desk free to use!
takes up very little space!
I'm able to keep ,my keybord at a comfortable place instead of over the cintiq
Cons:
Pricey! The Ergotron LX HD was about $270 off amazon
The placement of that tall pole that supports everything was kind of a compromise with my monitor there
I think this one's a keeper ^_^
