On January 25, 1961, Disney's One Hundred and One Dalmatians makes its debut theaters. The 17th Disney animated feature film, 101 Dalmatians is an adaptation of Dodie Smith's 1956 novel of the same name. The film tells the story a litter of Dalmatian puppies who are kidnapped by Cruella de Vil, a wealthy and spoiled woman who wishes to turn the puppies and others she had acquired into fur coats. Pongo and Perdita, the parents of the puppies, set out to rescue them and must overcome many obstacles to rescue the puppies and bring them safely home with the help of many other animals along the way.

101 Dalmatians proved to be a successful film for Disney, grossing $14 million dollars in its initial run and $215 million in its lifetime. The film has also seen multiple re-releases in theater as well as home media releases on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray. It has also spawned a live-action remake, animated television series, and sequels for both the original animated film and the live-action remake. 101 Dalmatians remains a Disney classic beloved by many around the world.

Di$ney is sure the master media company of milking a franchise. I really thought this movie came out in the very late 50's! I fail as a furry that have been a part of since 99'

I was 7 when that came out.
Saw it in a local theater.
You know, the ones with chandeliers and decorated walls with fake balconies.
