An alternate take on the events from "Secret of My Excess."  With a rampaging dragon destroying the entire town, the Princess sent... three Wonderbolts?... to the rescue!  Huh?

Edit: According to Lauren Faust, Spike was actually raised by Celestia.  So, assuming that Celestia did actually send the Wonderbolts, that might explain why minimal force was used to try and stop him.

Maybe she did not even send them.  Maybe they just happened to be in the area.  Rampaging dragon destroying Ponyville?  That's a Twilight job.

Actually, I wonder if the princess isn't just seeing how much Twilight can handle on her own--sort of a trial by fire.  She must be grooming her favorite student for something after all.

Oh, she totally sent them when you weren't looking.  Whenever there's trouble somewhere, Celestia raises an authoritative hoof and yells, "Wonderbolts!  Assemble!"  Then they all do martial arts poses and shout, "Wonderbolts Lightning Force Go!"

Actually, that's not a bad take on things.  The main purpose for the comic was to just do something silly and fun after all that ranting I did about Rarity.

Man, I so want to see an episode of just Celestia doing whatever it may be that Celestia does all day.  I'm sure a day in her life is full of silly stuff like that.

That would be so much fun!  Considering she's always cheerful (except in the most extreme cases), she probably splits her time between official business and using every free second she has to find ways to amuse herself.  With how long she's been alive, I'll bet she's very good at it.

It was strange to see her get all serious and intense in the Season 2 premier.  And now she seems to be back to her normal regal, disaffected self.

She is probably so good at it that nopony even knows she's doing it, like with the Grand Galloping Gala.  Going to a boring party?  Invite Twilight and Spike in the hopes that they will cause trouble and generally be good for a laugh.  ...LOL!  She wants to bring all her friends!

Yeah, the release of Discord was definitely one of the exceptions where she lost her cool a little bit.  Definitely gave a sense that something really serious was going down.  Also in "Lesson Zero" when she briefly yelled at Twilight.  I actually felt relieved when they got to the library, and Celestia looked more concerned while trying to comfort Twilight.

Oh man, the Gala... Usually, Celestia acts with everyone's best interests at heart, or she'll just try to harmlessly lighten the mood like with the tiny goof she pulled on the Cakes in "A Bird in the Hoof."  But "Best Night Ever" was Trollestia all the way.  She orchestrated everything for her own amusement, and didn't even seem to care who got hurt on the way.
I have a friend who's just now getting into the show (watching in order, currently up to "Applebuck Season"), and we had a discussion about "The Ticketmaster."  He had some objections to the moral in the episode, and I told him, "Yeah, you'll find out later that Celestia inviting all of them to the Gala was actually kind of a dick move."
