Apparently Twitter literally has written in their rules not to anthromorphize their icon... So you can probably think the rest xD

Twitter has guidelines for using their trademarks, so that other sites like Tumblr and Facebook can integrate Twitter without having to talk to them directly.

The point of a trademark is to instantly identify the owner of said trademark - therefore, the trademark must be consistent, so Twitter has a very strict set of standards for how to display it. "Do not anthropomorphize" is one of them.

In their infinite wisdom and bottomless ego, Twitter's user base got butthurt thinking this was telling them what they could and couldn't draw and started a fake rebellion against a fake order that was never given to them.

The best part is that TwitterFur wears the perfectly on-model Twitter logo on her shirt, and therefore is probably completely in line with the guidelines.

Personally I find it a bit suspicious that they wrote specifically "not anthropomorphize". Why not just "do not substantially modify the icon"?
Perhaps they did and wanted this on purpose to make people on other platforms talk about Twitter =D
It is not extremely hard to predict reactions of the communities by now, haha.

Anthropomorphic logos are better known as mascots and are one of the most common marketing gimmicks companies have... Why wouldn't they specify it?

Well because what I said would include this kind of modification too.

People not realizing (or perhaps caring) that only the male mountain bluebird is blue. 😼
