Game On
prologue

There was nothing, an almost abyss like zone nothing existed save for one soul, a very confused soul but a soul nonetheless. It was male, or at least was male when it possessed flesh and blood. This existence looked around for a moment, then again till it finally saw something, a figure in a long flowing black hooded cloak with a gold trim the soul looking more so confused as the being before him narrated his every action, knowing what he was about to ask as the figure then said,

“Yes I can hear your thoughts little mortal.”

The soul looked up at the being, the soul more so than before annoyed at the figure who continued to narrate his every action like it knew what he was going to do before it could, the figure then saying,

“And no I don't intend to stop, nor can I really, after all, how can the storyteller stop, if I did everything here would cease to exist and the page would remain blank.”

The soul sighed looking back to the figure who was still narrating his actions, the vaguely male soul finally asking tired of the being before him reading his mind,

“Where am I, what happened to my body I can't feel it.”

The soul looked at the being expecting an answer, the cloaked figure then saying,

“Sorry but that's what happens when you die, and yes you are dead.”

The soul had a panicked feeling to it as it struggled to feel anything, hoping that this was just a dream and that any moment now he'd wake and be able to mock the foolish dream as nothing more than a lonely soul dreaming nonsense; but after a few moments of trying the soul gave up, more annoyed at the being who continued his narration of his failure to wake. The being walked toward the soul finally saying,

“This is not a dream my little mortal, you are dead, but what did you expect,

The figure before the soul started leafing through something then saying,

"Overweight, more or less shut in, fondness for alcohol, loner and most likely self made looser correct.”

The soul recoiled the beings words stung, in truth he had been far from healthy languishing in junk foods and overeating, filling the void of his life and fear of the outside word with video games pretending that interacting with people in his games was good enough, the soul yelling as the beings word struck a nerve,

“Hey fuck off man, I may not have been perfect but at least I wasn't some murder or a crook, I never hurt anyone.”

The being before the soul laughed a little then saying,

“Ease up little mortal, I am not here to be your foe, in fact in a way I am here to offer you a second chance.”

The soul then looked up and asked,

“To what point you said it yourself my life was next to worthless, why would I let you send me back only to languish till my body once again gives out, if it's over then good riddance to an existence spent filling myself with mmo's, junk food, and spent just about completely alone.'

The soul then pouted saying under his breath “I died a virgin too this fucking sucks” the being grinned at him, or at least that's what the soul felt it was doing, the figures face unnaturally shrouded in its hood. The being then said,

“No that's not what I had in mind, I offer you something else.”

The figure snapped his fingers suddenly showing visions of another world, some of it looked like a hellscape, shadowy monsters seen slaughtering innocents, others had people fleeing for their lives, the being then said,

“What if I was to offer you the chance to be the hero you always hoped you could be but realized you never could be in the confines of a limiting world?”

The soul looked up to the figure then saying in a mocking tone,

“I've seen more than a few anime with that same setup, talk about original, what are you some kind of rip off artist?.”

The soul mocked the figure who scowled at him in irritation more so that he had to narrate this, the soul then saying as he looked at the visions people suffering, monsters and demons consuming at will,

“So I suppose I should ask what the hell is going on here?”

The figure grinned or at least once more the soul assumed that's what it was doing,

“I could tell you, but that would be telling no point in spoiling the ending before the hero has even decided if he's willing to do it, the basic information that I can give you to help you make your choice is this, these people need a hero, a savior.”

The soul looked up at the hooded figure then asked,

“And what are you, this worlds god, are you the god from my world? What's up with the hood and why can't I see your face, come on man if you want me to play along with your game here then i'll need more than this bullshit explanation.”

The being sighed then said as to answer the souls questions,

“Am I a god, well I guess you can call me that, but more to the point I guess my proper title is now the Story Teller, I speak the words and worlds form around me, I give life to the emptiness of the empty page, as for the world I would be sending you too, fine a little more information, though it's not just for you, the beings that enjoy reading my work will also most likely want a more clearly defined setup.”

The figure cleared his throat,

“The world is know as Travestral**, or at least this one continent is named as such, though the first and second ages of this world all was fine from an outside looking in point of view, life as you know being what it is, till the darkness came, at the end of the second era monsters appeared and waged, well it would be less of a war and more of a hungry slaughter, on this world, like starving wolves let lose on a flock of sheep.”

The figure went on with his story as the visions of the world changed,

“Now in the third era mortal life has been pushed to the brink, just about forty percent of mortal life on this continent have been slaughtered and they're being pushed back to the last of their fall back points, they are on their last legs a weak flame ready to be snuffed out, I offer you this chance go to this world become a hero this world needs, or perhaps you'd rather be its conqueror, it doesn't bother me if you choose either.”

The soul looked at the being asking to clearly,

“So you're a godly story teller, and your offering to send me to this world to be its savior whether that means I want to be its hero, or its biggest threat? Like what if I wanted to be more blood thirsty then the monsters that plague them already, lock everyone in chains enslave everyone use women and children as my person sex slaves, does any of that bother you?”

The figure looked at the soul with a nod then saying,

“I am a weaver of worlds, a god that brings life to my own work, it might sound cruel but at the end of the day if this world is destroyed i'll simply make a new one, I am no more attached to this world or the mortals in this world then I am to the ones in your old one, if you wanted to destroy the world then well I might be able to get an edgy dark story out of it at the end of the day by your hand or the monsters this world will end, and i'll have to start a new story, the choice is yours I simply give you the option, like I said cruel as it sounds I don't actually care, more to say I can't.”

The Soul nodded needing to think about its choice, thinking about it for what felt like hours, but finally the soul said looking up to the so called storyteller,

“Alright I think I know what I want to do.”

The storyteller nodded looking at the soul and asking,

“Oh and what have you decided then?”

The soul grinned as much as it could being a body-less puff of nothing at that moment,

“I will save this world but I don't think I want to be the over righteous goodie goodie that just wants to save the world because it's the right thing to do, if I'm saving this world then I'll make it my world.”

The storyteller looked at the soul for a moment,

“Really now, the conqueror it is then, so be it, I just tell the story after all, if that is what you want to do so be it.”

The soul double took well in a figure of speech asking as if unsure,

“Wait seriously, you'd actually let me go to this world, save it solely so that I can do whatever I wanted with it?”

The storyteller nods then said,

“I said it already I am not allowed to have any attachments to the souls in my worlds, I just tell the story if this is the route this story will take then I can only hope to tell it to the best of my abilities.”

The soul nodded he was starting to like this idea more and more, a brand new world not bound by the same laws of his old one at least that's what he expected it would be like. After a few moments the soul then asked,

“So how are we going to do this, weave me up an adorable eye candy of a little sister drop my in from the sky into a hopeless situation only succeeding because of plot armor? Just spawn me in the middle of a city with only the ability to reload a save file? Give me a next to useless party purely for fan service?? Oh What about making some vastly OP fucker due to the impossibly high level of my mmo character, or give me an entire castle of NPCs on top of that who are overpowered in their own rights?”

The soul was mocking the storyteller and the being knew it then saying angry at the soul,

“Hey fuck off, I'm not going to rip of the works of other story tellers, e. . . well i'll try.”

The story teller with an uneasy tone of voice said as he snapped his fingers,

“Alex are they ready?”

The sound of foot falls approaching echoed off of everything and nothing as another figure walked up this one wearing a similar hooded cloak this one stark white, the being whose face was also unnaturally shrouded. With a nod and an exchange of fist bumps between the two figures the second hooded being then said handing the soul what seemed to be a small binder to the soul,

“We both knew this was how it was going to go, you are after all writing this story literally as we speak just get the show on the road 'Story Teller'.

The soul not sure how he was holding the small binder when he had no hands looked at it for a moment, then opened it, inside several sheets of blank paper could be found, but it was weird what good would blank paper be? He looked at the pages of paper, they looked somewhat familiar to him, but they were still blank so after a moment he asked, looking at the two hooded beings,

“Ok i'll bite what's the deal with the paper?”

The storyteller quickly said to clarify,

“They're character sheets, eleven of them to be precise, these are going to be your power, your advantage. You will be able to use these sheets to appoint your . . friends? Companions? Uhh Champions  or slaves?? no no that doesn't sound right. . . .”

The Storyteller seemed lost in something, as if he had forgotten a rather important bit of information and was now on the fly trying to come up with something, the white hooded figure then saying with a face palm,

“Ignore him, ten of those pages will allow you to appoint whatever he ends up picking to fight by your side, champions to your emperor, the eleventh the page is yours and it'll help you set up what it is you want to be, in every actual sense of the word, and I meant it, to your strengths and weaknesses, all the way to if you want any kind of birthmarks on your body.”

The soul looked up to the white hooded figure with a little understanding, it wouldn't be the first time he went through character creation, then suddenly as if both had a merging of the minds both the soul and the Story Teller said in unison,

“Waifus”

Both Soul and Teller then looked at each other as the white figure muttered “Oh god” the soul then saying,

“Can this be a harem story? Can I be allowed to only collect females”

The Teller grinned with a nod saying,

“I don't think a one of my stories has had that not as an option . . yet,”

He stopped as he shook his head a little saying,

“But that's not fun to many of those exist.”

The soul looked around for a moment then saying in a moment of knowing rule breaking,

“Come on man, I actually had to die a virgin for your story, can't you at least do this for me?”

The Teller let out a deep sigh then said,

“Know what alright, why not, not going to hurt, try not to be your typical clueless harem protag alright.”

The soul nodded he would have held a thumbs up had he had them, but looking at a watch on his wrist the white hooded figure then said,

“Alright come on let's get the show on the road, this is page thirteen already.”

The Teller nodded then got ready, his companion then saying as he got ready to do his part,

“Alright here we go, oh keep in mind you are not immortal, you die end of story and i'll only be able to save you once because I know this guy and I know he'll do that.”

The Soul nods as the being before him gave him a stiff shove then all going black. Nothing at all, this being so till all at once there was light.

~End of The prologue chapter~

*Author notes*
Travestral**
pronounced as T . rah . veh. strell

The main continent this story is told in, home to well over a dozen different races, mortal life in this once somewhat peaceful expanse of land is on the brink of mass genocide as unnatural monsters have been loosed on the land by an unknown source, these near mindless hungry demons seek one thing and one thing alone, to feed.

Alex's notes
yes folks these are the same little monsters wolf always uses praise him for his originality, lol
