“Good riddance.” Knuckles said with distaste, looking at the shed around them, and knowing the other two felt more or less the same.
It had been a long night, with Shadow standing guard while the echidna and the rescued slave slept. Thankfully the hooded mask had held no tracking devices, so there was no trail, no path to follow from their escape beyond the back parking lot of that damned brothel. Shadow felt a great deal of fury towards the rat that had rented the blue hedgehog out as a toy to the most perverted of Moebians, stripping away that pure side of Sonic by the hour that he’d always admired. He wasn’t sure if the hedgehog sleeping next to him would ever be the same again, with only the hope that the strong determination and strength of character he’d seen him display in the past would continue to serve the blue hedgehog well.
It was only his concern for Sonic’s wellbeing that kept the GUN agent there that night, and the need to get him home. The chaos emerald eventually recharged enough of its energy for a trip back to the brothel; so tempting as it was to return for vengeance. He ached to see that rat again only to wipe that smirk off his face that he’d worn while he’d led Shadow to the garish room the blue slave was locked in. ‘Blueberry’, the rat had called Sonic, thinking he had the right to rename him. Pff. He wanted to beat that rat until he was so bruised he fit that name a dozen times over. To squeeze the dark green-furred rodent’s throat until the face above took that hue, and left the brothel without an owner. But that would mean leaving Sonic here unguarded while he and Knuckles slept, as they’d likely disagree with him taking a life, and they’d be stuck here even longer until the chaos emerald recharged once more, risking the chances of their discovery.
No, he couldn’t do that to Sonic. The hedgehog wanted to go home; he’d seen the worried disappointment in his face when it was explained to him how the anarchy energy of this world was effecting the chaos emerald, dulling it’s power significantly. It did not belong here, and neither did they. He felt relief once the Sun rose on the horizon, shining faintly through the dirty window and casting shadows across the pitch black interior of the shed that had once been someone’s home. The chaos emerald had regained its energy, or at least enough to take them across the dimensional zone barriers to Mobius. And they should go now, before the sun rose high enough to bother the eyes of the hedgehog who’s face been kept sealed in the dark for who knew how long.
Silently, Shadow roused Knuckles, then carefully woke Sonic, who shuddered slightly as he woke. “Time to go.” The blue hedgehog nodded wearily, taking the agent’s hand as the echidna rested his own on the black shoulder next to him, a slightly melancholy look on the red being’s face as the blue one turned his head away from the chaos emerald’s bright glow; Knuckles knew this was hardly over. Two words was all it took to make them vanish in a flash of light, their departure from Moebius long overdue.
“Chaos Control!”
