Because I took some sample pics of the shading progress when I made this one, I figured it would be fun to include them in the posting here. So if you scroll up & down, you can see the development of the art, and how the lighting setup was put together.
The illustration depicts Hunter's character Devin surprising his sister, Kiki, on her birthday. And fun-ly enough, the art itself was used to surprise Hunter's actual sister on her actual birthday! Nested layers of delight were thus to be had. The cake is no lie either, Hunter happens to be an accomplished baker, as anyone who perused our Halloween contest is no doubt aware. As to why his sister is washing dishes in the dark, erm... Because the lighting is prettier that way. And, um, let's say Devin flipped the lights out on his way in, for dramatic effect. YES! My artistic indulgence is now JUSTIFIED.
