It's kinda sad they couldn't give him the dignity of a proper burial like with other heroic animals. I've always thought it was very wrong of them to just stuff and preserve him and display him like that after the heroic thing he did for the city of Nome. It would be like if they had preserved and displayed Abe Lincoln and had his corpse still in the white house. It must have been very sad for you. I had a chance to see him but opted out because it seemed so sad and wrong they did not bury him under a nice memorial back home in Alaska where he belonged. I hope his soul is at least resting in peace.

I had no idea his remains are on display like that... I knew of the statue in New York, but this? I have to agree with you that it's not what he deserves.

Of course, I find taxidermy distasteful in general. Like you said, we don't stuff and keep PEOPLE after they die...

you know his story after the serum run? Know how he came to Cleveland? Many People in Alaska hate him, because he got all the fame after the run. They sold him to Hollywood, then he was chained in a Theater, and the people of Cleveland saved him and his teammates. He doesn't belong to Alaska anymore. I really loved the time in the museum, I really hope I can go there again.

I hope he found his peace too, he earned it, together will all the other Heroes of the Serum Run

I lived up in Alaska for over 20 years of my life. I wish I could say I was surprised to hear that but that actually sounds very much like the state I knew all too well. Beautiful state, awful people. Very cruel, very bigoted and just plain mean. They're not very kind people up there. Figures they would hate and resent a heroic dog who saved lives because the attention wasn't on them. I can tell you,ya got some really mean petty people up there. Oh btw if you ever get a chance you should see the really beautiful bronze statue of Balto that is in Central park in NYC. I've seen that many times. It's in a beautiful part of the park overlooking a pond and rests under beautiful old maple and oak trees.

I know i'm late to the party but i love this as well. also i agree with others... but it's a mixed.. thing with balto's body...  I actually find the story about what happened him after the serum run,  while he was still alive, to be more disturbing.  a side show act. :/ That story had no happy ending.

You are right, what happend to him and the other dogs was a shame. An happy ending, well, he had at least a better life in the Zoo of Cleveland in the end, and he is still well known in the City, even in schools. At our last visit I have talked with a police officer, and he also did known the story of Balto. He was and is an inspiration for many. My girlfriend is a teacher, and  she made an hour about Balto, and the kids loved it.
