That, thing, makes the most sense as to being the killer, it doesn't have to have a motive, it could kill without concience, could leave evidence without a trace, and not only have killed countless times before but also could choose to have used the camera of one of its previous victims, therein avoiding all evidence leading back to it.
Which is why the school it inhabits, has a reputation for being run down instead of haunted, they were going to be its next victims, and the comic could read as them having died and there ghosts wandered back to her house too.
