Maxwell nodded to himself as he was watching some of his troops train to get ready for the attack on Drazernon’s castle. He was currently watching Mar going up against a tall dragonness named Scathatch, Scath for short. She was in heavy armor and held a long staff with a blade at the end of it, which gave her plenty of mobility as well as enough speed to attack her enemies with fierce and swift strikes. Mar was currently backstepping and evading attacks as he kept his eyes shut so he could sense what she was doing, again using his aura sensing to his advantage as he was able to move away from every attack Scath sent his way. Maxwell was monitoring the fight to make sure Scath and Mar were both ready to be taken to the fight because he didn’t wanna risk anyone’s life, and if they were not ready, he was not gonna take them until they were ready. Scath eventually got Mar to the edge of their arena and smirked a little to herself as she put the hilt on the ground and swung around, kicking Mar in the back and throwing him forward, catching the jackal off guard as he gasped and flew forward since he couldn’t register what she had done that fast. He grunted as he hit the ground and bounced a few feet away from her as he stumbled to stand up, looking roughed up from hitting the hard ground that much but wasn’t giving up, he ran at Scath and made a sword appear from out of thin air and swung at her, clashing with her own sword at the end of the staff. Mar’s sword was glowing a light blue, slightly purplish when it had hit, showing it was a part of his senses that allowed him to make a weapon out of his own energy. Maxwell smiled and made note of that as it was quite the interesting power to have if he could just use a portion of his own life force to do such a feat. Scath smirked and nodded as if praising Mar for his attitude towards the fight and not giving up. She pushed him back and immediately shoulder checked him, making him stumble as she ran at him, only for Mar to catch his bearings and leaping right over her head. She watched and used her wings to propel herself forward and move faster than normal, barely getting away as Mar’s sword slightly scratched the back of her armor.
“Impressive. Both Scath and Mar have the power to match one another, but Mar definitely has the speed advantage. Although it also seems that Scath can match the speed only temporarily if she flaps her wings to lunge herself forward. Just goes to show that strength isn’t the only factor that you need to pay attention to when you are fighting, speed will also determine if you either live or die. That is a good thing to keep in mind.” Ornstein said as he walked into the arena to stand beside Maxwell to see how everyone is progressing. Ornstein was the current standing head knight and he was in charge of making sure everyone stayed in top form, even if they weren’t fully his soldiers. “One thing we will need to work on though it a form of communication. I can guarantee that Drazernon will have generals all over and we will want to know where they are and how many people of our squad are being injured, if we can’t get the information relayed, it’ll spell the end for our troops. We can’t let Drazernon get the advantage like that.” Ornstein told Maxwell, who gave a nod as he listened to the general talk. Ornstein was quite the impressive soldier to anyone who knew him. He became General at the age of sixteen, and has held the title for years, being twenty now. Few have attempted to take on Ornstein and take over as the head knight by beating him in a fight, but none have been able to truly match his powers. The man wielded a spear blade, a weapon that was used like a spear but was weaponized as a sword since it cut instead of pierce, which, thanks to Saria, was infused with the power of lightning and some ice elementals which gave his weapon the advantage since it was dual elemented. The only person known to be stronger than Ornstein was King Drax himself, as the king had quite the strength behind himself, but he lacked the stamina and speed ornstein possessed.
“Her Majesty Nomaderia wants us to be in top shape before we even think about heading out young prince. Just say the word and I will rally any few soldiers I can bring with us and we will head out. It is a risky mission though, but I have faith in you that you will lead us to success. I also did some thinking on what you had asked of me about this Inferno child, and I will do my best to make sure he is rescued as we attack the palace, but I cannot give a full guarantee that he will make it out. I swear on my life I will attempt to get him in the midst of the fighting, but I can’t say for sure if either us or one of his troops might kill him.” Ornstein said as he was unsure of this upcoming battle himself, this was life or death in essence, if they failed here, their kingdom was sure to fall soon after, their only hope was to win and defeat Drazernon before he can do as he pleases. Both Ornstein and Maxwell knew this, and shared this worry between them.
“I’ll be making sure as well he is safe. He is my brother after all, even if you can’t get him I will make sure that I can. He doesn’t deserve to be put in such a position that warrants such abuse from this awful demon king. I want to ensure that we save him and give him a life he deserves, one like I had, with a family that will love him. I still don’t know who that hooded being was that gave me that scroll, but without them, I wouldn’t have had a true resolve aside revenge for what Drazernon had done to me at the peace council, but knowing I had a brother is enough of a reason to do it even without what happened.” Maxwell said, showing his resolve. Even if it meant his life, he was going to make sure he saved Inferno from Drazernon. “But I do worry what will happen if I don’t. If what my mother said was true, I was used as a catalyst to bring darkness to the world, and there’s a chance he will do the same with Inferno. If we don’t save Inferno, we might actually lose our world to the darkness. I can’t let that happen, He won’t get his wish.” Maxwell said, Ornstein smiling softly and nodding, understanding the prince’s resolve as he spoke, and as long as Maxwell wanted a bright future for the world, he had Ornstein's unwavering loyalty, and would be followed by him no matter where he went, even if it was a risky mission.
The sparring had soon come to and end as Mar was heard panting and Scath looked a bit tired, but wasn’t making a noise. The reasoning behind her noiseless reactions was due to the fact that Scath was a mute, and that her voice was nonexistent, even sounds like gasping and panting were impossible for her. But despite being mute, she was able to communicate with her superiors well and was able to relay what she was thinking even without words, Ornstein and Maxwell getting pretty good at just reading her body language and hand signs, Mar wasn’t fully aware of that yet but Scath would probably be very willing to help him if he needed to truly understand her. Maxwell walked over and smiled at the duo as he nodded “Good job Scath and Mar. That was quite the performance, if you guys fight like that when we are our on the field, we will definitely have a huge fighting chance, with both of your powerful attacks and Mar’s quick and nimble speed, Drazernon is gonna need to send someone fast if he even wants to keep up with us. All that’s left is to make sure Marz and Draga are ready to fight. They’ll be sparring later and depending how they do will determine if I am ready to get us ready to head out. But be known, once we leave the castle, there’s no saying when we will come back, so if either of you have some unfinished business, Take care of it now, because you might not get the chance, not until we kill Drazernon.” He told them, both wincing at the worry since this was quiet the risky mission, but they both nodded in understanding before bowing and heading out to get some rest and finish what they needed to do.
Both Scath and Mar walked out, that thought looming in their heads as they knew this would be a tough and long battle, but they couldn’t back out now. The fate of their lives and the lives out millions was on their shoulders as they walked. Mar decided to break the silence by looking at the dark violet dragon as they walked. “You’re a really good fighter with the spear Scath. It’s interesting to face against someone who uses a more traditional weapon compared to those like Lynx and Ornstein who use Shuriken and a hybrid weapon.” Mar said as he watched the dragon, she hadn’t made a noise once since they had met and he was wondering why that might be, since she was friendly so it threw him off that she was such a quiet woman.
She smiled and nodded softly, before motioning at her throat as Mar watched, showing that she wasn’t capable of any form of communication verbally, in which Mar gasped softly but was cut short by her smiling and rubbing his head as she knew that might surprise him, gently taking his paw and sliding her claw across it softly as if spelling something out, in which Mar started to read. “I am mute, so I can not talk. Thank you for liking my style, yours is very unique and strong as well.” He read as she wrote, smiling as it felt weird to him, but it also felt really nice as it was something new he could learn. She nodded and released his paw and rubbed his head again before they started walking again, going their own ways soon just to go and get ready for the upcoming battle they would have to endure.
Maxwell had gone back to training once they were gone, using his sword a bit to get a feel for it since he wasn’t very versed in swordsmanship, due to using a rifle as his primary weapon. Ornstein was watching him and monitoring his work to make sure he did it right and was able to switch to the blade if things came down to it, since it was obvious that long ranged battle won’t be one hundred percent trustworthy with how fast Drazernon was when it come to fighting, and adding Marie and Alucard to the mix made a gunner nearly useless. Maxwell was very skilled but even he had his limits and that is why he knew he needed to learn the new style. “Good form Maxwell, but you’re still to open, you need to not swing in such a massive arc, especially since yours is just a common blade. The length of the sword makes it so a heavy arc leaves you open, so you’d have to execute your enemy quick if you did that. Try more small arcs, as well as thrusting the sword forward. If you can handle that, you’ll be able to counter Drazernon who I know is mostly heavy arc in style. And don’t be afraid to move your feet in rhythm of the sword, that way you can strafe to the side as you swing and make it harder on Drazernon to track you.” Ornstein explained and walked over to show him, gently grabbing the wolf prince’s left arm which held the blade and showed what he meant, quickly thrusting and swinging to show that the sword, in smaller movements, was also much quicker, Maxwell nodding and watching as he listened to him and tried it himself.
Ornstein nodded and let Maxwell’s arm go and he went back to the sidelines as Millia walked into the room with her sword at her side and her armor looking brand new. After having it burned by those hostile sorcerer's they encountered, she had to get her armor redone so that she could fight in the war. Her new armor was bulkier than before and made it harder to move, but it made her movements and strikes much harder, especially from overhead, the weight of the gauntlets weighing her claw down more than before. It was also a Crimson color in plating with a purple lining on the edges, showing her new role as a knight of elderitch by showing the colors of the royal family crest. “Aw, Millia, good timing. I would like you to spar with Maxwell and show him what he needs to do with a sword, since he is still brand new to the style and it would benefit him wonderfully if a well versed knight such as yourself was to show him.” Ornstein smiled and looked at Millia, who was examining Maxwell and his form, nodding as she unsheathed her own blade, it was double edged and sharpened to almost brand new looking, just looking made it obvious that it would cut any bit of armor that was weak.
“I can do that. I am a bit rusty and need to practice myself anyways since I was bedridden like he was, due to that fireball that hit me. Luckily the attack didn’t render me totally useless though because now that I am recovered I feel like I can take on a whole battalion all on my own.” She smiled. She was obviously exaggerating a little bit but it was clear to Ornstein that she was ready to get on the field and fight, no matter what. He was impressed that even after what she went through she was still able to pick up a sword and want to fight, it showed that Maxwell would be safe with all the strength his new guards were going to show to protect him. Millia smiled and walked out to stand across from Maxwell and nodded as she held her sword in both hands and aimed it at him with a slight tilt. “Alright your majesty, I want you to come at me with everything you got, no holding back. I want you to show me just what you can do and I am going to go lightly on you just to sample your style. I want you to act like you actually want me dead, because that is how you’ll need to be when facing Drazernon. Forget that I am royal knight Millia and pretend I am just another Rival after your own life.” She instructed, making Maxwell a bit nervous but her nodded and immediately charged at her, doing as Ornstein instructed and made a couple of quick swings, but didn’t land any of them as Millia watched him and backstepped quickly while also swinging her blade opposite of him, almost mirroring it in order to made her sword clash with his, her speed and battle awareness was almost machine like and scary.
Maxwell was surprised she knew what was going to happen as he kept swinging, quickly changing it up every chance he could and tried to at least hit her side or shoulder, but no matter what her swung, his blade was met with hers and it just clashed and made a scratching sound whenever she swung him away. Maxwell grunted and stumbled backwards after one of the last swings, feeling exhausted from colliding with her so much as he wasn’t sure what he could do if he couldn’t even hit her. He soon attempted to take a quick jab at her and ran at her, aiming at her chestplate. With one of her gauntlets, Millia quickly grabbed the blade of his sword and threw it to the side, and before Maxwell knew it, he had the wind knocked out of him as Millia crouched slightly and immediately rammed her shoulder into his gut and stomach, launching him almost three feet into the air and watching as he landed on the ground a whole foot away from her as he hit the ground and rolled, grunting the whole time as his sword clattered onto the ground beside him, Millia watching and nodding. “You made yourself to predictable during all of that, you always used your eyes to show where you would swing and when you tried to thrust at me you were to far away and I could tell immediately what you were doing. Had this been an actual battle you would have been dead.” She evaluated and walked over to make sure she didn’t just knock her prince unconscious as he lied there dazed, staring at the ceiling in a lot of excruciating pain and he tried to catch his breath, his vision a bit blurry for a moment before focusing on the tiger woman.
“I think you hit him a little to hard Millia.” Ornstein smiled and helped the prince stand but shook his head. “But I guess I can’t blame you, he needs to be ready for anything and something like that could easily happen. Hopefully in your full armor you'll be a bit heavier so that doesn’t happen, but it doesn’t hurt to practice without also.” Ornstein explained and sat Maxwell on a bench as he caught his breath, another guard bringing in a cup full of water for Maxwell to drink, the wolf taking it shakily and slowly drinking the content of the cup to get himself hydrated again. “I think that is enough for now. I think you should take the same advice you had given the other two and go and get yourself a chance to finish anything else you have to do. We can continue this later tonight after you had done that. Don’t leave without finishing, because even you are at risk. I know I shouldn’t be like that but we can’t risk any chances.” Ornstein said with a sigh as Maxwell nodded and went off, shaking a bit as he tried to forget the pain his chest felt from being hit by Millia’s shoulder. Under the armor she wasn’t very muscular but the new armor was definitely something to worry about.
“I do worry about what you said Ornstein. He is the crown prince, and if he dies that right goes to prince Marz, but even he doesn’t seem to want it. If we lost Maxwell, what would we even do if we don’t have a crown prince to take the throne when Lord Drax is ready to give up the throne and retire himself?” Millia asked, sheathing her sword again as she watched the gator man as Ornstein sighed gently and put on his helmet.
“I was instructed that if Maxwell doesn’t take the throne, than we pass the right onto Inferno. I don’t know why, but he is so determined to save that young child from Drazernon, but I will make sure it happens, and if he does happen to die, I will make sure Inferno becomes king. Prince Maxwell trusts his own instinct and I am no one who can argue with someone like him. He is hot headed like his father, and in the time I have known King Drax, I know that he won’t change his mind once it is made up. So if he trusts that Inferno would be a good king, despite who he was raised by, that I will not argue, I will instead sit back and watch and handle it as it comes up. If Inferno proves to be not suited for the role, I will think of something.” Ornstein told her and nodded as he went to put away all the training equipment, Millia nodding as she listened and sighed as she thought about all this. A random man who gave Maxwell a scroll with Inferno’s information, his change in appearance and form, and his determination to fight Drazernon. This was not what she was expecting when she was asked by Duke Verius to escort Marz back to Elderitch, but despite that, she was going to do as instructed. Verius might not have been around at the moment but she knew he would want her to fight the good fight, and that was the fight to protect Maxwell and kill Drazernon. She had a new resolve and was determined to follow through with it. But for now, she left and went to the armory, she was going to make sure everyone was suited for the battle to come, no matter how long it took. Waving Ornstein off, she nods and heads off, her goal in mind and in heart.
