Riverbiscuit, the seamousie of the main quintet of My Little Mousies, visits some seahorses. Perhaps they're someone's pets or perhaps she's just visiting the sea, but they make a cute trio, don't they? _______________________
Here's my first YCH commission, by longtime anthro artist Caribou AKA Sara Miles. I think she captured Riverbiscuit's likeness better than I have so far. An inspiration to aspire to.
Myocampi aren't really my original idea. A Jerry mermouse appeared in a 1949 Tom & Jerry cartoon from 1949 (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3).
However, when I gave the idea my own spin for the My Little Mousies, I thought I'd be clever and coin the word "myocampus" from hippocampus (Greek: hippo- "horse" + -campus "sea monster"), swapping "hippo-" with the Greek word for mouse (myo-). In keeping with the horse to mouse theme, the My Little Mousies myocampi are also called seamousies, in reference to the seaponies of My Little Ponies. Riverbiscuit's name is also horse-related, derived from Seabiscuit, a famous racehorse, with the caveat that the seamousie prefers freshwater climes over the ocean. Her mer half is inspired by sea lions (hardly all that horse-like, of course) since they're able to walk on land. _______________________
