The location he is at is a small private beach on the mainland. Above is part of a lighthouse with heavy surf below. The area of the small beach with heavy surf was inspired by a trip I once took about 20 years ago when I was but a small child. It was when I went camping at a camp site in, around or near Pfeiffer Beach at Big Sur in California. The area is renowned for its dramatic cliffs, scenery, unspoiled wilderness and really really really huge waves.
I remember the waves I saw as being as high as a 3 to5 story building at the area I visited. Thought it was a beach, at the area I visited, swimming was not allowed due to the waves in that small coved area.
The addition of the lighthouse on top is due in part from Big Sur having a lighthouse in the area. Plus it looks nice and adds to realism and shows scale in the picture for the background. Below, under the surf board, I drew a few crashing waves.
The area itstelf is not Big Sur, but rather an area I made up.
D. Dan, besides having a new board, is also wearing a new pair of swimming trunks. I got the idea for the design from the underwear advertisements that, for a while, kept popping up on me either as pop ups or, simply, as advertisements on the various sites I visit that have advertisement. D. Dan is also wearing some new goggle like shades for extra awesomeness. Also he has a rope tied to his ankle where a ring is, since surfers do that in real life to keep there boards with them if they fall off, and to use as a floatation device in case. I also added sports gloves because I think he looks cool with sports gloves on. LOL. ^\/^.
