Dan's first day of school was at a school in the middle of large city near the commercial district. Also, the scene takes place outside at the gates to the school where D. Dan's father, Lt. Defensor Dan (he was a Lt. at the time), is dropping him of and handing him over to one of the teachers leading students to their homeroom.
In D. Dan's world, students of noble families that intend for their children to be knights receive uniforms of various colors. Red signifies the most basic levels of any knight class for most of the kingdoms. Red is worn for the longest period before moving on the next colors.
Next is orange, then yellow / gold, then white. After white the student enters an Academy to learn the highest and most advanced techniques before becoming full knights. During this time and several years afterward, the student wears a green uniform.
Even though school ends after the academy years, a knight still learns by being in various types of groups of fellow knights and in being assigned various duties.
And advanced knight wears the color blue and is usually a Lt. at the least. After blue comes an elite knight with the color purple and, during this time, they become active in more leadership roles and assist the master knights personally or in groups. After the purple comes the master level of the black knights. Despite the name, not all black knights wear the color black. After a ceremonial outfit given when receiving the master level, a master knight usually has supreme authority to wear any color and style of uniform they wish.
These uniforms tend to be the most elaborate and expensive. Besides a few examples in recent history, all master level knights are the highest ranking individuals in whatever group they lead such as generals, commissioners, admirals, etc.
Most knights in their lifetime mot often, at best reach the purple uniform and spend most of their life wearing the blue uniform. The average age of a master knight in current use varies in age. There is also a significant group of master knights that are either savant or prodigies and make the master class earlier than most. They tend to either be well taught or of a lineage that tends to be stronger than most lines due to divine or similar ancestry.
Defensor Dan (D. Dan's father) is both and made the master rank five years later in 1990 at the age of 33 years. Most, otherwise, reach that rank while in their 70s. LOL. ^\/^.
