Raven Wolf - Book 01 - The Wilds
Chapter Fifteen

The chieftains and leaders of several wild tribes are gathered around Shiya, they all angered over the situation that was happening in concerns to their people and the domestics that attacked them. “The domestics are growing in number, they destroy our crops and relics, and attack our people! They must be dealt with before their numbers get even worse.”

Shiya raises his voice, even if the domestic lived differently than them they were still people. “Dealt with? It is true that they have done many terrible things, but it is not our place to pass judgement down upon them!”

There is a snarl as one of the other tribe leaders looks to Shiya. “Have you forgotten your place Shiya!? That is exactly what you and your tribe have been ordered by the spirits to do! The domestics have already been judged by the spirits of this land! It is your task to pass to pass the spirits judgment upon them!”

Shiya shakes his head no such a thing unthinkable. “I will not take the lives of those who are innocent!”

“Innocent? How could you possibly call them innocent? Have you not been paying attention to what has already been said about them?”

Shiya looks back to the chieftain that had spoken up. “I have heard every word! But you must know that these terrible actions were done by a handful of their people. Not all of them do these things, there are men woman, and children who do not act in such ways! To pass judgment on those that have done wrong is one thing, but to kill an entire population for the wrong a handful have done is unreasonable! I will not take the lives of those who have done nothing!”

Shiya bares his teeth. “The spirits are wrong to place such a punishment upon the domestics. They have been blinded by rage and can no longer see the horror and regret that such actions will result in!”

“My husband is correct.” A she-wolf with fur as black as night approaches the group of chieftains as she speaks to them. “Do you really think that the domestics appeared on our land from nowhere? They are but a shred of the populace that they came from! If we slaughter the ones that have appeared here we will wage war with a populace that outnumbers our people by the thousands! Horrors much worse then what are happening right now will surface.”

Shiya looks back to the black wolf as she holds her hand to herself while keeping her eyes upon the other tribe leaders. “Our reasons for refusing to attack are not the same. Shiya wishes for him and his pack not to take unnecessary lives, while I fear the actions that such an attack will result it. The end result is the same, as the leaders of Raven Wolf we have decided not to attack the domestics. The spirits are wrong! There is nothing to be gained from such an action!”

Angered voices raise as the arguing intensifies, this argument going on for hours before the chieftains finally part ways, each returning to their respective villages.

Shiya and the black wolf whom was his wife and mother of his children, now head back to their own tribe, the black wolf looking over to Shiya when they near their village, he looking particularly worn out from the long argument. “Do not hang your head like that. The leader of our people must always be seen as strong and dependable.”

Shiya sighs to himself the whole ordeal having left him feeling like one of the worst people in the world, but lifts his head as he had been told. “I’m not dependable... because I refuse to complete the task the spirits have given to me I have doomed my people and our children to live a cursed existence.”

The black wolf leans toward him kissing him on the forehead, she and the rest of the members of Raven Wolf accepting this fate. “You are doing the right thing. Despite the curse we now carry our people are still able to live. If you turn yourself and them into weapons then the little humanity we have left will be taken from us.” She places her forehead against his. “You know what it’s like to live your life as nothing more than a weapon, it is an experience that I nor anyone else could possibly comprehend. There is no need for you to walk that path again.”

Shiya gives her a weak smile, her words defiantly helping to lift his dampened spirits.

A high pitched voice of a child call out to the two of them. “Mother! Father!”

A young wolf with fur as black as his mothers runs up to the two of them, his mother grinning as she kneels down to pick him up. “Yula, what are you doing all the way out here? You’re not by yourself are you?”

Yula frowns as his mom not sure why that would worry her. “I’m grown enough to take care of myself, I don’t need anyone to come with me.” He looks over to his father and excited tone in his voice. “Father I had an important dream about you! You need to hear it right away!”

Shiya looks over to Yula, this was not the first time his son had had a vision, thought all his visions so far had been hard to understand, the child unable to make sense of anything in them and only able to babble out bits and pieces of what he had seen in his excitement. “You had a vision about me?”

Yula nods his head yes. “Yeah! And I have to tell you about it! I’m supposed to tell the chieftain of our tribe about all of my visions! It’s the rules!”

Shiya crosses his arms preparing himself for another confusing jumble of words that often resulted whenever Yula tried to describe a vision. “Alright then, what was it?”

Yula makes a grin as he begins to explain. “I was surrounded by white fog all around me in the dream! But I could clearly see two wolves like us in it. They were twins, a brother and sister. You were there too! But you got hurt badly because of the sister, and then the brother took your place.”

Shiya seems confused. “Took my place? You foresaw my death?”

Yula looks horrified. “I did!?”

Yula’s mother pats her son on the head. “Now, now Shiya, don’t cause Yula to be frightened of his visions.” She looks back to Yula. “All lives come to an end Yula, mine, your fathers, even yours, it is not something to be afraid of. The vision you had is only meant to inform Shiya of when his time will come, to be able to recognize the signs when they appear, and be ready and sure that everything is in place for his people when his time upon this earth comes to an end.”

Teddy glances over at Shiya uncomfortably, the white wolf sitting across from him and staring at him with a frown, Shiya having been acting in this manner for a while now. Teddy looks from him and over to Iuana. “I don’t think your father likes me very much.”

Iuana looks past Teddy and over to her father, his reaction towards Teddy odd for him. “Father is usually much more friendly than this, he probably is just tense with everything that is happening right now.”

Yula, Eve and Kit are all panting heavily, they unable to run anymore without taking a break to attempt to catch their breath, they the reason the group was right now taking a moment to rest.

Yula looks everyone over. “None of you happen to have any water do you...? I think I’m going to die if I don’t get some soon.”

Everyone shakes their head no in response to Yula’s question, Yula whimpering to himself, unsure of if it was possible for him to continue lasting like this.

“I found them!”

The group all quickly get to their feet as they begin running in the opposite direction the voice had come from.

This ordeal seemed to be a consistency, the military giving them very little time to rest, the three members that were not quiet used to physical activity hardly able to keep it up, there no doubt that they would by now be caught if not for the other members of the group pushing them forward.

Teddy looks over to Shiya as he begins speaking to him, it didn’t matter if Shiya didn’t care for him or not, their situation was not good and something other than just running needed to be done about it. “We’re never going to get away at this pace, there’s no way Yula and the others are going to be able to keep running like this. Even I’m starting to get tried from this constant momentum, and you and Iuana are not looking any better off.”

The group is forced to a stop when another line of soldiers stands in their path, Yula panicking as he quickly changes direction, Eve and Kit following after him. Iuana turns too chasing after them, she struggling hard to not stop and give up as much as her body wanted her too right now.

Shiya doesn’t change his direction just yet, he taking a moment to look over his soundings. “This isn’t good.”

Teddy looks over to Shiya, his heart racing as he tries to catch his breath. “What do you mean?”

Shiya calls out to the others that had already taken off. “We can’t go that way!”

Teddy grabs onto Shiya moving him out of the way and forcing him forward, a bullet flying past them and hitting a nearby tree. “We can’t stay still when there’s soldiers so close to us.”

Shiya looks over to Teddy as he explains his concern. “If we keep running in this direction we’ll be trapped! There’s a cliff up ahead, once we reach it we’ll have nowhere to run.”

Teddy frowns at the information, no doubt the military knew about this. “They’re purposely forcing us in this direction, they want to wear us out and then corner us.”

The trees they are running through come to an end as the forest ends, they reaching a clearing, the cliff that Shiya was talking about now clearly able to be seen, everyone in the group gasping when it comes to their attention, all of them forcing themselves to come to a stop.

Eve seems the most panicked at this point. “What do we do!? We can’t go forward anymore, and if we go back we’ll get caught!”

Teddy jumps forward when Shiya lets out a surprised grunt, Zack leaping at Shiya and bringing him to the ground. Teddy turns back to help him but stops when he finds Dolly standing behind him with weapon drawn.

Teddy slowly begins to back away, Dolly yelling out to him and the rest of the group. “All of you on the ground! Now!”

Teddy, Eve, Kit and Yula do as they are told, Iuana baring her teeth and letting out a threatening growl, she refusing to listen to the orders of her enemy.

Dolly glances over to Shiya and Zack, Shiya having already gotten back to his feet and thrown Zack off of him, Zack also back on his feet ready to hit Shiya with another shot. “Do you need any help Magellan?”

Zack grins at the offer. “Leave him to me, you just worry about the rest of them.” He rushes forward attacking Shiya once again, the white wolf swinging his spear at Zack to try and stop him, Zack avoiding the attack and grabbing into the spear, forcefully holding it in place to keep him from swinging it at him again.

Iuana rushes forward to attack Dolly, Dolly frowning as she prepares herself for the advance, taking her right hand from her gun and grabbing onto the combat knife at her side, swinging at Iuana when she is close and causing her to stop her approach and jump back to avoid being hit.

Shiya struggles against the soldier he right now found himself pitted against, Zack managing to pull the spear from Shiya’s hands, he turning it around and aiming the blade of the weapon towards Shiya, Shiya lifting his hand as the air ripples and a freezing cold blast of air hits and throws Zack back off of his feet and through the air, Zack quick to push himself back up to his feet after landing on the ground, rushing forward to attack Shiya, this action catching Shiya off guard, as he had not expected Zack to recover so quickly, Shiya quickly taking several steps back as Zack tightens his hands into fists and takes several swings at him.

Iuana lets out a painful scream when she is thrown down to the ground hard, Dolly getting on top of her and pinning her down, disarming her and throwing the weapon Iuana had used against her far to the side, Dolly once again using her gun and pointing it down toward her fallen opponent. I

Iuana forces her arm free, throwing Dolly off of her back and then angrily swings her leg into Dolly’s feet right after she had gotten back on them, tripping her and bringing her to the ground, Iuana grabbing onto the hand that held the gun and twisting it from Dolly’s grip, Dolly grabbing onto the front of Iuana’s clothing and forcefully pulling her over her, causing Iuana’s body to flip over her own body and once again hit the ground.

The gun that Dolly had been holding slides over to Teddy, Teddy quickly grabbing onto the weapon and using this chance to make it his own, the grey wolf getting back to his feet and running back to the others. “Are you guys alright?”

Yula shakes his head no. “I think my chest is going to explode from running so much, and I-”

Eve quickly speaks up before Yula could continue his rant. “We’re all fine, for now anyway.” She looks back to the four figures that were currently fighting one another near them. “We have to get out of here though. Normally at this point I would have given up and just let them take me back, but with Kit here that’s not an option. You saw yourself what that Magellan did when he saw him! He didn’t even blink an eye when he fired his gun at him! If we don’t manage to figure a way out of this Kit is going to die by military order!”

Teddy frowns as he turns from the group and back to the four that were right now locked in combat, Eve was right, if they didn’t get away then Kit would be killed. He gets back to his feet moving away from the group and aiming the gun he right now held in his hand. Pulling the trigger and firing several bullets.

Zack abruptly stops his advance on Shiya as he pulls his body back, the three bullets that Teddy had fired at him flying past him and missing their target.

Teddy stares at Zack in shock. “How could he have possibly seen those to dodge in time?” He frowns as he recalls that he had encountered a similar problem concerning Zack when trying to escape the domestic city. His reflexes were incredibly fast, to the point that they should actually be impossible.

Zack returns his gaze to Shiya unwilling to keep his eyes form him for too long, he angrily calling out to Dolly. “Deal with your brother Conner!!”

Dolly once again throws Iuana to the ground, she turning around and leaving her and running over to Teddy, grabbing onto his hands and pushing them upward so that he wouldn’t be able to aim the weapon while at the same time holding him in place. “What do you think you’re doing Teddy!? Do you have any idea of how much worse you’re making your situation once I get you back!?”

Teddy struggles against his sister. “You’re the one that doesn’t understand the situation! That boy is going to die if you capture us!”

Dolly frowns at the comment not knowing another about something like that. “What are you talking about!?”

Iuana grabs onto Dolly from behind, reaching from under her arms and locking her arms against her shoulders, forcefully pulling her back from Teddy and throwing her body to the ground, Dolly struggling and managing to pull her right arm free, hitting Iuana hard in the face to try and get her off of her.

Teddy frowns as he turns away from them, he taking the opportunity to aim his gun once more, pulling the trigger and firing as soon as he had his target.

Again Magellan reacts, moving quickly to avoid being hit, Teddy cursing to himself as he fires several more times. “How is he doing that!? Why can’t I hit him!! It should be impossible for him to move out of the way like that!”

Zack continues to avoid being hit, he yelling over at Dolly between dodging, this very much interfering with his fight against Raven Wolf’s leader. “Conner!!! You’re brother! Now!!”

Dolly again hits Iuana in the face in an attempt to get her off of her there not much she could do about him when Iuana was on her like this. “I’m busy right now!”

Teddy continues to fire the gun he is holding, he becoming increasing frustrated as he continues to miss his target, this not making any sense at all. “I don’t understand! How is this possible!?” A mortified look fills his face when the gun he is holding makes a clicking noise, the weapon having run out of bullets. “No, no, no, no not now!”

Zack smiles as he turns away from Teddy, running toward Shiya to attack him again, leaping at him and grabbing onto him, bringing the both of them crashing to the ground, Zack gaining control as he pins Shiya’s arms down on either side of him to prevent him from using any more of his strange attacks. “It’s over!”

Zack lets out a surprised yelp of pain when the gun that Teddy had been holding hits him hard on the side of his head, Teddy having thrown it at him as a last resort.

Teddy frowns as he stares at Zack. “What are the odds... he was able to doge every single bullet I fired at him but doesn’t dodge the actual gun being thrown at his head...”

Dolly throws Iuana to the ground once again, Iuana laying upon the ground slightly dazed from the blows that she had received, Dolly now running over to Teddy and tackling him down to the ground, she looking back over to Zack and gasping in shock.“Magellan look out!”

Magellan is holding his head in pain, he looking back down to Shiya to see Shiya’s hand lifted toward him, Magellan no longer holding it down when he had lifted his hand to hold the spot that the gun had hit him in. Magellan gasps realizing the mistake he had made, the air between them rippling as Zack is hit and thrown off of Shiya, his body hitting the ground hard and tumbling back.

Zack lets out a horrified gasp when the ground beneath his body disappears, Zack scrambling to grab onto the edge of the cliff that he had tumbled off of, he unable to grab onto anything capable of holding him up.

Dolly gets off of Teddy as she races over to Zack’s location, diving to the ground and grabbing onto his arm just as his body disappears behind the ledge, catching onto him and keeping him from falling, Dolly grinding her teeth as she tries to hold Zack’s body up.

Teddy gets back to his feet calling out to the others that were with him. “This is our chance! We have to get out of here now!”

Iuana gets back to her feet holding her head in pain, Shiya too getting back to his feet, the group leaving as quickly as they could manage.

Dolly struggles to keep Zack from falling, she unable to move when trying to keep him up, her head turned towards the group as she watches them leave. “Just great!” She gasps as Zack begins to slip, she tightening her grip around him to keep him from falling.

Zack frowns as he stares up at her, their mission objective almost out of her sight. “You’re letting them get away! Forget about me don’t let him escape!”

Dolly continues to struggle to keep Zack up. “I’m not going to sacrifice you to try and stop them! I admit that you’re not my most favourite person in the world but you’re still my partner. You have my back and I have yours.”

Zack stares up at her, Dolly continuing to explain. “Once our equipment is repaired we’ll be able to track them down again! We’ll get another chance!”

Zack looks away from her, he had been so close to finally catching his target. He growls loudly, Dolly was right, if they could get out of this one there would be other chances, he takes his free hand using it to talk into his radio and communicate with the rest of his group. “I need you guys at our position immediately! Dolly is barely keeping me alive right now and I don’t know how much longer she’s going to be able to keep it up! I repeat everyone to our position now!”

*******

Yula dips his hands in a stream, scooping up water and bringing it to his mouth to drink it, gulping it down as fast as he could. He starting to cough from drinking too quickly, Eve patting him on the back to try and help him stop coughing. “I warned you this would happen if you drank too fast.”

Iuana winces as she cleans out a cut that she had received from one of Dolly’s attacks, her body badly beaten and bruised. She looks back to Teddy, murmuring weakly to him. “You’re sister is pretty strong... most people in tribe can barely lay a finger on me, but look what she did to me.”

Teddy approaches her as he begins try to help her with her wounds. “Yeah... she’s not an easy person to fight... I can never manage to beat her in hand to hand and she goes easy on me because I’m her brother.”

Iuana looks over to her father, he too tending to the wounds he had received from the battle. “That man that fought father, he was strong as well, probably stronger than your sister.” She lowers her head. “I never realized when he was acting as my guard that he could possibly be that powerful... he did not seem the type at all.”

Shiya speaks up knowing the answer to that mystery. “He’s Super Soldier.”

Kit gasps in amazement, a title like that was just too cool. “Oh wow really! A Super Soldier!? No wonder he was so hard for you to fight!!!”

Teddy frowns as he looks back to Shiya, that sounding not only fictional, but completely silly. “A Super Soldier? What does that even mean?”

Shiya looks to Teddy as he begins to explain. “Super Soldiers are soldiers genetically created in a lab that are made specifically for combat. Their bodies and minds are trained and chemically enhanced since birth to become perfect soldiers.”

Teddy stares silently at Shiya, finding it hard to believe a single word of this.

Shiya frowns as he begins trying to wash a cut on his left arm, he having a hard time cleaning his red blood off of his snow white fur, he still talking to Teddy regarding this while tending to his wounds. “You saw how he was able to avoid getting hit with your bullets didn’t you? That’s something only they’re able to do. No one else can react that fast to something like that, it’s not possible.”

Teddy thinks back, the whole dodging thing was defiantly something that had caught his attention, and Shiya was right about it being something that shouldn’t be possible.

Eve frowns as she speaks up, she knowing that there could be no such thing. “There’s no such thing, that’s just a conspiracy theory thought up by the overly paranoid that think the government is evil and out to get them.” She pauses thinking over what she had just said, that actually being Shiya exact situation. She quickly tries to explain. “I mean, I’m not referring to you and the rest of Raven Wolf... even though you actually do fall under that category. I’m talking about the crazy paranoid conspiracy theorists.” She holds her hand over her chest. “Trust me I’m a military scientist, if something like that were going on I would know about it.”

Shiya looks back to Eve. “I never said it was you’re military. This is a project for a much more advanced military than yours. Honestly I don’t understand how your military managed to get their hands on him.” He looks back to Teddy there absolutely no doubt in his mind regarding it. “I know that’s what he is, I’ve encountered them twice before.”

Teddy raises an eyebrow. “So you’re saying that Zack would be the third one that you’ve seen?”

Shiya nods his head yes, that exactly what the situation was, he looks back to Eve as he explains. “He even looks almost exactly like the last super soldier I saw, and not only that but he had his model number in the same spot as the other two I’ve seen. I saw when I was fighting him, the number that was tattooed on the inside of his ear.”

Eve crosses her arms. “A number tattoo on the inside of his ear? Well... that’s defiantly not a way we number any employees in our military... but still it’s not possible, even if it was another military. I mean, that’s a common way to mark animals, not people, No military would even think of doing that, it would be degrading.”

Teddy frowns, not really recalling something like that on Zack, of course he had never really bothered to look for something as odd as a tattoo on the inside of his ear, Eve was right, stuff like that just wasn’t done on domestics or people of any kind.

He looks back to Shiya something about all of this surprising him. “I don’t get it, you’re a wild aren’t you? Even if this is all somehow true, how exactly did you come to know all of this?”

Shiya frowns as he looks away from Teddy. “Many people make the assumption that because I’m a wild I am ill informed of the happenings outside of my village.” He gets to his feet beginning to move forward.  There no reason to waste time explaining if they weren’t going to believe anything he had to say about the Super Soldiers. “We should get moving, though it doesn’t seem as if we are being followed anymore we should try and gain as much distance as we can before they start the search up again.”

Eve gets to her feet. “And just where you expect to go? We’re being tracked by them remember? No matter where we go they’re going to find us! I don’t think I need to remind you of just what will happen to your village if we are to return there.”

Shiya looks back to her. “We’re not going back to the village, not yet anyway.”

Iuana speaks up, she the first to question her father. “Where are we going to go then?”

Shiya begins moving forward while he explains. “It’s a few days worth of travel, but there is a small domestic town nearby. If we go there we should be able to find someone who is capable of helping us with our problem.”

Eve frowns. “It’s not that simple! Not just any domestic can help us with this situation you know!”

Shiya nods his head. “I am well aware. Believe me, this is no ordinary domestic that we are going to see. He’ll defiantly be able to help us out.”

Teddy looks back to Iuana, Iuana getting to her feet and following after her father, Kit doing the same as he runs after Shiya to catch up with him.

Yula begins to panic when he see that they had already started to leave. “Wait a second!” He gets to his feet running up to them and following after Iuana.

Eve sighs as she looks over to Teddy, the two of them the only ones left. “Tell me... how did we get dragged into this again?”

Teddy looks back towards the group. “Does it really matter anymore... all that really matters is the fact that we can’t turn back... not after fighting the military instead of quietly doing as we were told like we did. I don’t think even you’ll easily be able to explain yourself out of this mess.”

Eve nods her head, Teddy indeed right about their situation. “Well... I guess that means we should start walking before we’re left behind. If that were to happen then we’d be in a worse situation then not being able to turn back... we would have no one to turn to, and nowhere to go.”

The two begin moving forward, following the group as they began their journey to the place that Shiya had suggested that they go.

Raven Wolf - 01 - The Wilds - Chapter 14
Raven Wolf - 02 - The Oracle - Chapter 01
Due to human negligence the world as we know it has ended and been reborn. The animal spirits that guide man giving them the forms of animals so that they would be able to survive in this new wilderness. Though now carrying the form of beasts man has not forgotten the place they once had, as an existence greater then just what nature wanted of them, an existence above all.

Those that worked to gain their humanity are known as domestics, while those who wished to follow the rolls the spirits had given them were known as wilds. Both groups grew arrogant and hateful of one another, the wilds saw the domestics as selfish monsters, for they were returning to the ways that had once destroyed the world, while the domestics saw the wilds as primitive beings afraid of progress, they no better than wild animals.

The raven and the wolf spirits grew tired of the destruction and fighting, and sided with the wilds in their ideals, the domestics only capable of further destroying nature. In their anger they marked a tribe of wilds with a curse, they being removed from the sacred circle of life, unable to hunt or grow their own food, their souls never able to move on while their bodies are unable to return to the earth when they died. The curse upon them only broken once the domestics are gone once and for all. The cursed tribe now known to all by the name of the spirits whom cursed them. ‘Raven Wolf’

Well. That was interesting. Making us think he was going to die like that. How rude!

Now I think about it. Zack reminds me of a Matrix Agent.
