First Solo!
In Pursuit of Destiny.
First Solo!
For decades, in the USA,  the phraseology instructing a pilot to taxi the aircraft onto the runway and wait for takeoff clearance was, "Position and hold." A few years back, the US joined the rest of the world in using the phrase, "Line up and wait." which to me sounds like badly translated English.

The seat belt. On one of my solo flights as a student, I forgot my seat belt. I closed the door with the buckle hanging outside. As I was rolling down the runway, the wind got strong enough that the buckle started banging against the fuselage. I thought my engine was backfiring and about to quit. Needless to say I aborted the takeoff and found my mistake when I taxied off the runway. One of those unforgettable moments.

Here's hoping we aren't about to get a twist and see Kitchy end up being the one to flunk.

Not that I want Chucky to do so.

I was wondering when he was going to fasten his harness.

this is perhaps why the US army now instructs to click your seatbelt before turning on ignition xD

It's one civilian checklists too, but that doesn't mean one nervous skunk won't slip passed it. That's why it's in multiple places.

Hehe, called It!
Spent many a day addressing the dents left on the side of the fuselage from the instructors leaving the belt in the door, sometimes I think they did it on purpose!
We had one incident where someone left a tow bar on the nose wheel, on take off it swivelled up underneath and was banging on the belly of the plane!  Crew thought there was a maintenance guy still underneath!  Good times.
It's funny Chucky is all nervous for his first time, later on in his career, he probably won't even use the checklist!  Most in flight service calls I get, the first thing I ask is "Did you run the checklist?"  Radio silence means they did and it's "fixed" now!
Go Chucky, you can do eet!
=^.^=

Towbar stories are always good. The other one is not realizing the towbar is still attached until you start the engine and metal goes everywhere.

Awesome video. It's amazing all the contraptions we came up with before getting it right.

Kitchy should be voiced by Rob Paulsen. The Pinky voice with a French accent. Perfect.

If he could work a higher pitched teenaged boy's voice in there, it would work great.

Celsius in Atis is fairly recent too. Still use Feet for altitude and AM for the radio though....

Also doesn't Seat Belt come before Master On? :)

Depends on the airplane and the checklist. Is it a manufacturer's checklist or a company checklist? Some places I've worked had seat belts/shoulder harness listed more than once. But that didn't stop me from taking off with the seat belt hanging outside once.

I love the characters in this comic. Been reading it for awhile now; I'm honestly a bit of a lurker with it. Totally addicted, though. I love it, man. Keep it up, can't wait to see how Chucky's adventure unfolds!

considering this pilot trainer's size it must not have much range...
Chucky
4 years, 8 months ago
No, it doesn't. Maybe two and a half hours of flying, enough to go 300 miles or so.

I've seen ones like this in our Universe, just asking... think this one might be a small fusion-powered engine run on some type of solid fuel rod.. like the swordfish from Cowboy Bebop...

Yes, there are several small airplanes available with this configuration. The tandem-seat Long-EZ is probably the most popular one. You wouldn't use something like it as a trainer though, too fast. But they are kinda futuristic looking, so I went with the canard and pusher prop design for the comic.

Chucky's airplane uses an internal combustion rotary engine fueled by compressed hydrogen. Their technology allows hydrogen to be super cheap. But with its low energy density, even highly compressed it takes up a bit of space, hence the airplane's limited range. It's a perfect fuel for a trainer.

we have such tech now with solar-powered systems but reforming NG is the most common and cheapest though with the cost of pannels being so low I have seen people have small systems to run there homes and cars but nothing commercial that is because they deemed all forms of H1 matters of national security. and scared everyone else with pictures of the Hindenburg.

still, love this series are you going to put in the bits about him getting his plain and first jobs? An adventure that would make Air America look Tame.

Originally I was planning on doing more, but I think I'm done with this series. It 'served its purpose' in the creative part of my life as it mirrored my own pursuits over the years. The White Witch comic is going to be my project for the foreseeable future. It'll probably run about 250 pages like the aviation comic did.
