Also, god damn but if that trailer for Stellaris:Apocalypse isn't the anthem for 2018. Those feels! Every single time.

Er... that was not the inspiration for this little animation sketch, no. Rather, as ever, I am an artist, and am therefore constantly distracted by making stuff that looks cool, rather than figuring out any programming for my little test/practice game.
As it turns out, audio and sound effects are the same. And I have no experience or skill with that department, so... have a pilot being blown up!

I hope you like it! If you've been paying attention to my recent submissions... then yes. This is EXACTLY what I have in mind for the little portrait that pops up when your ship is destroyed!

... no seriously... this rough animation is exactly perfect. OMG. This never happens. What is this?! D8

That said... your ship is essentially meant to be the Rebel Alliance fighters to the TIE fighters; the bad guys don't put shields on their ships, because they neither value the pilots or the ships. The good guys do.
I'll essentially have to figure out how to adapt a preloader bar to recognise the input of some numbers that will be subtracted when you take damage, and pop your ship when it is empty...

Oh wait, no... when your shields are empty, you DO still have your ship's hull; a skilled pilot should be able to duck, dodge, dip and dive for long enough to replenish their shield's energy!

Note to self; design shield pickups. Hmm... what should they look like? No! I need to program it first... art later... halp! D8

... Oooh... but wait... imagine all the different lasers and ships I can design... 83
