Yeah, the tech wasn't there for that, yet. I remember playing this in arcades at the time (it's actually an improvement upon the very first video game of the same name, produced in 1962!!!) and the comically obvious Star Trek model renderings probably made it popular. Look up images of the cabinet online: all the control buttons look like they come off an old IBM typewriter!
