And the winner of the second banana award goes to... Luigi... who else!? Without fail, I'm always brought back to the lovable green player 2 and his spooky misadventures. It really was about time I gave him a proper shout out and what better then in a countdown devoted to second fiddles? While characters like Tails and Morty are well known for being universal sidekicks, none shine brighter in that regard then Luigi; The original second player! Hell he's probably the most successful sidekick of all time... well, maybe besides Robin of Batman fame but I don't really care about him.
While I've no issue with Mario as a character, Luigi has always been the one I preferred of the two. Possibly just because I like green more then red, but he's always been depicted in a funnier way and it's understandable why he's become such a fan favorite over the years. The fact that both of his stand alone games were based around ghost busting really was just the icing on the cake for me. In truth, a large reason why I did this countdown was to give Luigi the spot light he so deserves. I've added him into my Halloween Countdown before, as runner up-(fittingly)-in the year where I focused on good guys from dark settings. It was good, but I just felt he deserved the top spot, even if it meant making a lineup of all sidekicks... so I guess winning something like this isn't much of an honor but hey, it's something!
Yes, I know it was totally expected and obvious that Luigi would win this one, but I figured for my first and maybe only one of these that I had to do it. It just wouldn't be right if I didn't and hey, sometimes you just gotta go with your gut, even if everyone expects it ya know? Well, this was my Top Ten of sidekicks.
