I was experimenting with my style, and this is the result. At first I was just seeing how I could make Malissa's face simplistic but interesting. I guess you can blame my recent experience for some of the additional roundness. After that I made her some clothes, just messing around. Then I started just throwing out ideas, colors, designs, accessories, and temporary tattoos.
I kind of like the result. I've frequently seen pictures that employ a wide array of color with seemingly no coherency, with mixed results. This turned out better than I was expecting. I might switch the color segments on the ears though.
Finally I decided to try out a new method of inking, using the paths tool and simulation of brush dynamics. I like how it gave a smooth variation of line width. The standard path inking has been pretty disappointing, but I think I may have discovered my new favorite inking method.
Yes, that's right, the inking was done with the paths tool. That inking. Booya! I'm still running into problems with scaling however. The ink gets a little jagged when I shrink it down. But it's a little less noticeable this way.
Anyway, I have fondly dubbed this 'Rainbow Vomit' because the colors are nearly epilepsy inducing compared to my normal stuff. I think I need to do stuff like this more often, so I can get a feel for how colors relate.
