On November 3, 1911, American automotive company Chevrolet was founded by race car driver Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder and former manager William C. Durant. Though differences between Louis Chevrolet and Durant eventually led to Chevrolet selling Durant his share of the company in 1914, the Chevrolet company proved so successful that Durant was able to buy enough shares of General Motors to regain presidency in the company. During his time as president of GM from 1916-20, Durant merged Chevrolet into GM. In the following years, Chevrolet would compete against other car manufacturers, including the juggernaut Ford, to become of the most successful and popular automotive companies in the United States. Today, the Chevrolet brand can be found available on the market in nearly every region except Oceania where Australia's Holden represents General Motors.

Another great history lesson. I knew everything about this except the years William Durant was president. A lot of my family on my dad's side has worked for GM in Oshawa in the province of Ontario in Canada for generations. Dad has a cousin who is in Michigan too working for General Motors. I read today that Louis Chevrolet was also in the inaugural race at the Indianapolis speedway and was almost blinded by a flying rock off the early asphalt track surface.
