Gadget wants to slump onto the ground beneath his feet. Finally... finally it's over. The war. The fires. The robots. Everything is finished and the world is normal again. Well... as normal as it can be. A lot of Eggman's destruction is real... but some isn't, fueled by the freaky ruby that was once in Infinite's... no. That name no longer exists. That was Eggman's doing, not the young male staring at the ground he's sitting on. The black bodysuit is gone, as is the mask. They dissolved away when his Wispon hit its mark, destroying the corruptive gem and turning it into dust for the winds. White fur and a black muzzle and belly are finally revealed, along with that familiar scar... He toddles over, each footstep feeling like a mile. From the distance, he can see the quivering frame. Chaos, he's so close to crying, but who could blame him? Not after-- No, that's not the time. He needs help. Finally he's standing in front of the fallen male, and soon their eyes meet and match. Gadget can't stop them now, he's too happy, too relieved. He can feel the other's eyes on him, some wondering if now comes the final blow... but there is no final blow. The true enemy was vanquished. "G...Gadget..." that smooth, velvety voice is so damn shaky... Then the other starts crying as well, and Gadget smiles solemnly. "Vale... it's over, babe. You're free..." he proffers his arm out to the other, fighting off the shakiness. This feels so strange, so wrong-- The grasp returns and lights up his senses like a pinball table scoreboard. Both of them are crying in a mix of sorrow and relief. Neither wanted this to happen... but it did, and all they could do was pick up the pieces. It takes effort, but slowly, Vale gets to his feet. A tender gloved thumb brushes away the tears, before their lips meet. It's just like the last one they shared before Vale disappeared. It's warm, it's refreshing, it's everything right with the world. "Welcome back to the land of the living, bud," Sonic smiles, bringing out a soft hiccup from their former enemy. Gadget knows this will be a rough patch in their lives--who knows how many memories his lover has of this horrid period of war and smoke. But they're together again. And they can get through it all together. |
