Oh the Great Mighty Poo, what a blessing you are to the gaming community and talk about a character I've thought to add into my Halloween Countdown for years. You might be wondering why then. Why did it take me this long to add in the Great Mighty Poo into a Halloween Countdown? ...BECAUSE HE'S A GIANT PIECE OF SINGING SHIT! Honestly, while the sheer concept of this boss fight was a pure streak of comedy genius there was just that taboo part of it all that prevented me from ever going down the rabbit hole enough to draw him (and funnily enough that wasn't meant as an allegory for someone's anus, though man I wish I had meant it as such!) in the end though I just figured "eh screw it!" and tossed him in.
I should actually mention that this actually came down to a tie between him and Sukamon; If you don't know who Sukamon is, he is a Digimon which is literally a sentient pile of poop eating poop. Sort of Japan's answer to The Great Mighty Poo, if you will. I actually was opting for Sukamon first, as his sheer existence baffles me to my core. Conker's Bad Fur Day was supposed to be gratuitously foul so an opera singing turd was almost expected but Digimon is decidedly more child friendly so seeing sentient shit in it really shocked me-though it is a perfect metaphor for Digimon as a whole I must say. Sorry to any Digimon fans but I've never liked the series by any means, which explains why I didn't learn about Sukamon till late 2016. In the end though, The Great Mighty Poo won out for the sheer humor factor and that he is one of my favorite boss battles of all time, if not the number one spot just for his sheer absurdity! But that all being said I do need to formally give a Dishonorable Mention to Sukamon for just missing the cut. There will be a few of these this year too.
Truth be told, to me, his existence keeps Conker's Bad Fur Day from falling out of existence for me. I'm sure I'm about to trigger a lot of people's nostalgic sensibilities when I say this, but I don't really find Conker's Bad Fur Day very good as a game! Yes, I find it funny in it's own right but in terms of being an actual video game, it really doesn't hold up much. There's very little in the way of being a game, instead it's just used a platform to show out a narrative that... really doesn't live much past the era it was made in. It comes down to a lot of dated references and only remembered for nostalgic value. The way I see it, some video games age like fine wines... others age like milk. Sorry, you can all grab your pitchforks now but that's my opinion.
AAAALLLLLL of that aside, I still and always will find the Great Mighty Poo to be the greatest, most insane boss fight ever made. It's really tough to beat subject matter like that. He's well deserving of a spot in one of my countdowns... but with that said, I guess the thought on many people's minds now is "If you liked him so much, why did you rank him so low?" well I considered a much higher spot, but at the end of the day... he's just no. 2... and yes, that is the one and only reason I switch my numerical system this year from counting down to up. You're welcome.
