Originally chambered in .303 British and later adapted to 7.62mm NATO early in the Cold War, the Bren would serve the British military in some role in every conflict in which they fought from World War II to the First Gulf War in 1991 (though it had almost been entirely replaced by the FN MAG by that point). The Bren was also in service with Army Reserves of the Republic of Ireland as recently as 2006.
