Okay, so I occasionally ponder the notion of creating an all-furry Fantasy setting. But I still like me some classic "Standard Fantasy" tropes, like Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and the like. So then I got to wondering, how do I have the best of both worlds without shoving Non-Furry races into a Furry setting?
Answer? Use "Replacer" races for the standard Fantasy types. So basically, take your typical Fantasy race tropes, and find (or create) a good Furry type that can fill in for it.
So, here are some early concepts.
-Unicorns: Replace Elves. This was the first obvious connection I could think of; both are magical, fae-like beings with a connection to nature. What ELSE could I replace Elves with?
-Nibelung: Basically, I'm using an alternate Germanic term for the Dwarves, to name a race of furry, horned, almost goat-like humanoids, who will essentially be filling in the role of Dwarves as the Stout Underground Miner/Swordsmith race.
-Name not yet Finalized: Gnome/Halfling Replacers. Basically a short, cute and crafty race of tricksters and tinkerers. Might go with "Knockers" or "Boggans."
-Draconians, v1 and 2: These are my Orc replacers. Basically, humanoid descendents of Dragons, with a hierarchy/caste system based on the draconic form and elemental types.
-Kobolds: replace Goblins, essentially. The small Evil Crafty race.
