Quick doodle I did as a joke in the Inkbunny Discord~

I had overclocked an Asus EeePC to run World of Warcraft when I was in college. They... weren't designed to run much of any game at the time...

Ahh, Asus EeePC. I had one for years. Super light and great for taking notes.... that was about it XD

Yup! That's what I'd bought it for - rather than lugging my 15 pound 2005 gaming laptop to college classes...

I just made it do more than that :3

I have a Thinkpad x120e, it's similarly low-CPU but still useful, especially with 6GB RAM and an SSD (and if undervolted it doesn't even run the fan up high all the time). I ran the recent IB server migration from it after my main PC conked out at an unfortunate time.

Unfortunately, a lot of netbooks max out at 1 or 2 gigs of RAM, and the drive isn't upgradeable. My Asus Eee 901 topped out at 1 GB, and the 16 gigs of 'ssd' was hard-partitioned as 4 gigs for C:\ and the rest for D:\.

But it was fine for really old games and MUCKing from! I still have it, but the fan is messed up and it overheats.

Yeah... I guess the key is that if you get a netbook, try to get one that's upgradeable in some way. Of course, the lightest and cheapest tend not to be, but often you can get a deal on one that is - and that might be a better bet in the long-run.

About mid-2009, I got a Toshiba Netbook. I still have the computer, still running Windows 7 Starter Edition, with only 1G of RAM; it's rather sluggish on that, but it still does most of what I need it to do.
Now that I work for a place that handles lots of computers, I have a better source for spare parts and upgrades...

...the junk bin. ;-)

Ah, good old memories :3 I used to use a netbook as my main computer for a good bit of time (though mine was an Acer Aspire One), was cheap and _very_ portable~ Unfortunately, after 2 years, it started to slowly deteriorate, and after 3 years I could no longer even boot it (didn't pass POST).

On the plus side, netbooks are so cheap it doesn't feel too bad to get another one if that happens. Sometimes there are parts you can salvage, too.

Eeeeeee!~ is pretty much the reaction I had to mine!

And I did that too, the program to un-underclock the Intel GMA video, to run WoW. I only used it to check on my auctions when I was on lunch at work. (This was before the Android app for that, so...)

Cute!
